Post subject:  lightweight blade
Hi
I'm looking for a light weight cpen blade and I want some suggestions from you. I'm using XIOM Fuga now that has 84 gr and I feel a little heavy. I want a blade weight between 70-75 gr or less. Sorry for my english.

I use Nittaku Rutis cpens - Have 3. 70, 72 and 73g.

Wow! I am salivating because I too am in search of the holy grail of 70g carbon/arylate c-pen that plays like KLHS.

I looked up stats on the Rutis and it's supposed to be 85g. Did someone pick out lighter ones for you?
A 72g Rutis would be PERFECT. Where exactly can I buy one that light? Thx!

P.S. I'm not an EJ, I am a "heavily researched investor of table tennis products." Doh!

Is there any chance that one could get a 75 gram or less Jpen one-ply blade. Just wondering. Maybe a custom made one with some trimmings on the handle, blade size, etc. I know one option is to go for a 9mm but then we are talking about a completely different angle.

avg weight is 75g not 85. The following is from the nittaku site.

I know the OP ask for something between 70-75g but in case interested, I recently bought a piece of TSP Versal chinese penhold which comes in at 57g.

Do you use one piece of rubber or two? A CPen set up with ONE rubber + a 84g blade is not heavy at all.

I like light weight CPen blades too because of RPB (2 rubbers) and Stiga has some nice, light CPen blades (see paddlepalace):

Butterfly Real Chinese, IMO, is a good, simple, light weight CPen for one rubber.
Some of my CPen friends (no RPB) like to use a round (not sqare) JPen blade playing CPen: Butterfly Senkoh 5, light weight, and not that expensive (for a Butterfly).

I recently got a Wavestone WRB (average wt. at 85) but I asked for a light one at 76g. This is a good CPen blade at a very good price. But if you ask for a lighter than average blade for any model, expect a slower blade (i.e. ALL+/OFF- instead of the specified OFF) and more vibration. I will likely get another Wavestone WRB in the future but at around 80g.

One more thing: Is your rubber heavy too?

:lol: I purposely not mentioned it and sure enough, nothing gets past you :clap: Yes, the Kokutaku Laser Carbons are around the 75g.

Thank you guys for all yours suggestions.
I really like these weight blades. I've played with DONIC Waldner Senso Carbon V1's friend blade (flared with cpen grip, 80g) and I have better reactions than with Fuga therefore I want a lightweight blade.

I use two pieces of rubbers because I use RPB. I tried to play with one rubber and I liked but with RPB I'm more versatile. I'm also using traditional block when I'm in real difficult.

I have not weighed Omega II(euro) 1.8mm rubber but I think is not havy. DHS Hurrican III Neo 2.1mm is harder than Omega II 1.8mm.

Please write me which rubbers I must use for Nittaku Rutis, TSP Versal, Kokutaku Laser Carbon.
If you have more suggestions please post it.

the rutis and laser carbon are stiff composite blades so don't put anything too soft and don't put anything rock solid.

that being said, because they're stiff blades you have quite a wide range - i have used tenergy, h3, 999, coppa jo gold, roxon450, vega pro, sonex jp gold, coppa jo silver on my rutis.
Coppa jo silver was probably the softest i would go, but i don't think something slightly softer would be too bad.

That's 21g lighter than my BT550. Even with two sheets of T05 I imagine the Versal is only about 150g total. Fattchoi, is there enough heft in Versal for mid distance play?

Something I've noticed is that two bats may have same weight, but the one with more balanced center of gravity will "feel" lighter in play. The heck am I talking about?

Yesterday I switched from Sterco/T05 to T05/T25 for kicks. That caused my bat to go from 164g to 176g (yes I have a scale, I am a nerd). On paper I switched to heavier combo. In reality, it plays lighter. Looks like the equal weight of the T05/T25 sheets act as counterweights that allow bat to swing easier. Before with Sterco/T05, it was much heavier on the T05 side which made the combo feel lopsided and "heavy."

Anybody get what I'm saying about swing weight, or am I just insane? :D

marius, I used Tenergy 64 1.7mm and Tenergy 05 2.1mm on the FH and a varieties of OX LPs on BH for my Kokutaku Laser Carbon. Works well for me.

pushchop, if by heft you mean oomph or power, then definitely. The TSP Versal is a balsa blade. I use Tenergy 05 on the FH and Armstrong Anti Spin on BH. I actually find my FH smash with the TSP Versal much faster compared to my heavier one ply hinoki blades. In fact, the antispin is supposed to be a much slower rubber but I actually find it quite fast on this blade! And yes you are right. A well balanced blade will actually feels much lighter even though it may be heavier. Weird but true.

I is not impossible to get J-pen single ply 10 mm in 80 grams (I have one), but I do not know if it is possible for 75 grams. However, the difference between 90 to 75 grams is not so significant I think.
I would not trim a blade because it would disrupt the balance, and you might not like it.
