Dude I did sand my rubber once. And it failed on me bitterly.

After sanding, the rubber actually got smooth. What is rough is the outer layer of the rubber. Inside it is all smooth rubber. It got even smoother when it got soaked in my sweat. There cant be a right or a wrong way to sand a rubber, can there? It cost me a fortune to replace my rubber.

Has anybody sanded their rubber? Has it worked for you?

I still havent managed to find my fabric bandage that is rough outside and is actually a sticker like -and has mentioned.
