Hi,

I've bought a Donic Appelgren penhold CPEN. I have never played with penhold before. My forehand is pretty good, but traditional penhold backhand seems me impossible. I've seen a lot of picture and some training video, but I can't see the how to hold the blade someone when he uses backhand. When I try to block or hit with backhand, the I hit the ball up and/or out of the table, baceuse I can't turn my hand. My english is not so good. I mean that when I use backhand the blade is almost right angle to the table, but it should be 45 degree angle with the table. How can I hold the blade at traditional penhold backhand?
Do you have pictures or video where I can see both side of the blade in this bakchand motion?
Thanks in advance.
Bocsa

Do you plan to learn the RPB (reverse penhold backhand)? (This may determine the grip you may use.)
Some may disagree, but I suggest learning the tradition BH first then RPB, if you want to learn the TBH properly. Otherwise, there is a tendency for a beginner to skip to the RPB without mastering the TBH at all.

One of my coaches in China uses RPB for Everything on the backhand, push, block, flips and loop. :)

I'm no c-pen expert, but in my limited experience with that sort of blade, I find I have the opposite problem. I can hit the traditional backhand punch block pretty well, but I can't get the forehand. For the backhand I think you have to lean forward more to get more of a blade angle if needed. Using short pips helps also.

use your index finger to controll the angle of the bat when tbh and rest the thumb on the edge of the blade without much or any pressure..

also TBH can be very useful for putting on ridiculous amount of side spin mike Ma lin does, or punching those nasty loops just above the net down the line away from the other player..

also learning how to use the korean/japanee Bh comes in handy when you get a ball going wide to your bh( you can get some decent power from that shot
