I am currently looking for a slower blade replacement for my friendship c-1, any suggestions would be appreciated.

leatherback I thought you were using palio, why the change? Friendship c-1 is a all-round speed blade, I have tried to look it up online but I could not find any reviews about it, also I am on a budget.

haha, two training sessions ago i broke my last palio and while I wait for my lastest stock from china.....double fish sits on my blade....not a bad substitute....better closer to the table not as effective from further off.

if your on a budget! try the tulpe blades....tulpe 007, perhaps the best blade i have ever used hands down....except its black and i cant use transparent red pips.....

pen hold chopper?

I've seen one in one of the club I played. He is from China, an interesting playing style. He uses only the FH side and has big disguised strokes.

I haven't had any chance to check his blade and rubber yet, next time I see him, I'll get update info on his racket.

You can look at eacheng.net, they offer some ALL penhold blades for good prices. I also think that most of Tulpe all-wood blades would be suitable for chopping , their quality is quite good, especially for the price.

I saw a blade on cole's website that is defensive and it has arylate in it, do you guys think it would be a suitable blade for me after I shorten the handle of course.

Actually arylate without carbon is a good choice of a defensive blade. Arylate gives you the hint of feeling the ball without having too much vibration. It also give your bat larger sweet spot and unsurpassed consistency which hardly could be achieved with most natural wood.
As long as it doesn't exceed 7 ply (would be too rigid) you could have a good feel with it and make sure it is only semi-fast.
5 ply is reccomended.

Hope this helps :)

Is it illegal to shorten the handle, by cutting off the brand of the blade off.

Whack away. Brands, logos not required. Even homemade blades are legal if they meet the other requirements. :)

Thanks for the quick response hookshot, some of my mates claimed that the blade needs to be officially made out of the factory with the brand still attached.

ITTF does not endorse blades (Yet)
The basic requirements are, Any size, any shape, 85% wood, surfaces must be wood, must be flat. If carbon fiber or other material is used, must be under the wood. :)

Yes, shortening the handle is certainly legal, which means, for chinese penhold, anyway, you could buy ANY shakehand blade for it (well, those donic dotec ones might be awkward). Certainly there are more SH DEF blades than there are CPEN DEF blades. And if it has a plastic inlay, just saw through, if need be....it's not deep and the saw goes through it nicely (kinda worried when I did this once). So, yeah, saw away! There is nowhere in the rulebook that says you can't....good luck! :)
