With a quick and very easy movement of the thumb, it's possible to move from the cpen grip to a new (???) grip that I have called cigarette grip. is called v-grip.

The cigarette grip v-grip is very similar to the classic grip and is not intended to be a "new style". It was conceived just as a strong complement for the cpen style. For instance, using the v-grip cigarette grip it's possible to execute a very effective reverse backhand. I have called this movement the "BRB" (brazilian reverse backhand). And I have baptized the whole thing by the name "brazilian penhold" (bpen).

I believe this is an innovation, because, as a matter of fact, I have never ever heard about something similar. I'm in good faith and I hope I'm not stealing someone's work. Anyway, at least I'm not trying to earn any royalties from my invention. :D

This first (very short) video just demonstrates the thumb movement:

And this one is intended to oficially launch the bpen.
It's in portuguese but I think I don't even need to translate it, because it's self-explanatory:

NOTE: I have just discovered (on a brazilian forum) that the infamous "cigarette grip" actually has a much better name: "v-grip". Hence, I have edited the title of the topic (and some of its content using the strikethrough resource).

I have played just once (last friday) after a 36 years break, so I haven't even started to explore the possibilities. But, IMO, the new reverse backhand is a killer and has worked (for me) as a breeze. Now I'm willing to learn the classic (or maybe "learn" the cigarette grip) to see what happens.

Choose another name.."the cigarette grip" as you called is not good for this sport.

Good point. But "the joint grip" does not seem to do better. Perhaps "the crab grip" could work. It's not easy to grab a name as obvious as "shakehand" or "penhold" in this case.

NOTE: I have just discovered that the grip itself already exists and has a better name: v-grip. Therefore, problem solved.

But the passing from one grip to another (that's what matters after all) still seems to be an innovation. Let's see if this is true or not...
