So, I was playing with my friend on the "rubbish" table, after training. I finished training with a doubles match in which I switched to Cpen and 'da bomb', and had good fun. ATM on the rubbish table, we're tending to play with some crappy old bats with some foamy sponge and some not very grippy stuff. Not a real rubber, but we have two of them, and they're nice and slow and pretty good for control. As has been reported before, I tend to play Cpen, and just block in these games, but a chance to hit a ball on my backhand appeared, and quite by chance I tried out an RPB topspin drive. It was a screamer! I tried a few more times, and got into the feel of it. I switched from the rubbish bat to the bomb, with skyline 3 on the BH. I made a conscious effort to hit anything wayward in the BH section, and got some super shots. I'm not saying I'm a convert, but I can see I might introduce this to my game, for those occasions when I play Cpen, for fun :)

PS: the friend with whom I was hitting suggested that RPB stood for "Right Poncy B@stard!"

I'm surprised you can play both shakehand and cpen without having to go full-switch between one or the other. I was taught cpen as a kid, but I would have to practice for a few weeks to play proficiently with it again.

I don't think I play very proficiently with cpen, but I enjoy it. It's how I played as a kid, and it feels very natural.

It is good you've had some great initial success. Weakness in your results may show up as you regular playing partner adjusts to your new style, You begin to play other players, or your equipment changes. I find in my rpb I don't block as well, As a did With my traditional backhand.

Interesting - I hadn't considered RPB for blocking - I still do that conventionally. But if there's a lose ball I'm not attempting to hit that with RPB.
