Yeah, that's what I've been told. Rounded blades are for over-the-table play, because the corners get in the way.

One of the major table tennis brands in Japan is Armstrong, though you almost never hear about it outside Japan. Here's one of their catalogs:

Anyhow... they were on the scene early, even before Tamasu, I think - and they were the ones who made Satoh's (Japanese penhold) bat that he used to win the WC in 1952 with bare sponge. Scroll down to Page 17 and you'll see page after page after page of Japanese penhold blades. Rounded ones, rectangular ones, all sorts of handle shapes, ones with undercut handles (3rd blade on Page 21 - no idea what it's for!), blades for twiddling (and perhaps RPB, see page 22).





In the old days, when you went to Chinese bookstores (because this was where table tennis equipment was mostly sold) there were racks of cheap Butterfly premade Japanese penhold rackets in cardboard-and-blister plastic hanging from pegs, like you see shakehands rackets today at department stores. You'd also see some ultra-cheap Chinese made Japanese penhold rackets, too - these had wood rather than cork handles and some incredibly bad rubber (the topsheet would come off), often in green or blue.

I just started playing penhold sometimes vs lower skilled players. I use long pips on BH side to handle service
return. Anti could be used too and is much easier to learn than long pips.

I got a stiga offensive classic and dhs skyline 2 neo. I like the setup, its pretty light and has good spin when serving and looping for me.

Did you put anything on the back for RPB?
