1) Join a club, get some coaching.

2) Once you've gotten good, go where the players aren't so good..

(This happens quite a bit, actually, if you move somewhere where there aren't any serious players and have to spend your playing time in a dorm basement..)

You need to really be prepared to change and work hard on it.

Play with the best players in the area.

Change your blade and rubbers constantly until you find the perfect combination.

And when you do - remember that an even better one almost certainly is just round the corner.

Or, more seriously, if you cannot get a local coach, which would be the best way to improve your game, look for TTEdge, PingSkills, Brian Pace, Expert Table Tennis etc on YouTube/the Internet. All have some good basic information, and advice on how to get more.

You have posted in the "penhold grip" section. Are you looking for online tutorials on penhold grip?

Someone at at golf group lesson asked how can I play well enough to join the tour. He said quit your job and do nothing but practice.

But seriously a club is great. You'll be exposed to different player styles. Find out how to attack off them. Add a coach to find out what you're doing right and wrong. It can get really precise like which fingers you put pressure on to make a stroke or where to put you leg when you make a forehand. It's hard to get that from a video.

In order to become a player simply go to a club, get a starting setup and start hitting.
But unfortunately being Chinese is REQUIRED in order to become the best player.

I WISH I were kidding but if you look at lists of the best players from any country, literally ANY country you're likely to find a bunch of:
John Chineselastnames and Jane Chineselastnames.

I hope all these are like sarcasic or tongue-in-cheek comments :-D

Serious note on becoming "a best" rather than "a better" table tennis player is to be born not only into a TT family ( father or mother must have been top-10 ) but to have the same parents sit you on a TT table since the age of 2 and have you swing the giant tennis-size TT blade while feeding you ( milk only if you hit a 1000 balls, else just balls everywhere ). That way you can surpass anyone! By age of 12 you would have become World No. 1 or will have been crowned Youth No.1 , Junior No.1 etc and none of the oldies can touch you and your same-age opponents will be in awe too much gap in training to ever score against you.
