I am a penholder and i play both Jpen and Cpen.

In the 38mm era people usually played 9mm Jpen. In the 40mm era people played 10mm thickness.
This blade is 8mm thick. So it's going to be lacking a bit of power. In contrast it will give you loads of control. I plays both 9mm and 10mm thickness and i prefer 9mm due to better control. Therefore 8mm would be good for a beginner.

You want to look for rubbers that have medium hardness sponge.

I am afraid that's too fast to begin with.

Try
Yasaka Mark V
Yasaka Rakza 7
Butterfly tenergy 80 1.9mm thickness

this is very sound advice. I play with a 10 jpen now when I play j pen. with a blade that is thinner you'll have to work like a dog to get any zip on the ball but your control will be better. . it' worse with a poly ball. hard to play with something lighter.
your should also consider play cpen with hitting on one side. I started like that when I was young (1970's) before rpb came about.
