What is actually the definition of "Drive Pen" and "Fast Attack" on the Penhold specification from Butterly ? Can somebody explain this ? Thanks.

Drive pen = For driving. Usually away from the table. Faster than pens for looping.

Fast attack = Attacking straight off the bounce. Returning the ball ASAP, giving your oponent less time to think and also to give lots of angle varients when the opp goes back (away from the table). Commonly used with SPs or flat hitting rubbers like Sriver S.

Hope this helps! Sorry about lack of info on Drive Pens. :?

Thanks, so drive pen is for one who stays away from the table, and fast attack is for one who stays near to the table.

Yes, you'll also notice that the Drive pen blades are longer and narrower, rectangular in shape which gives more speed and less wind resistance on full swings.

The fast attack blades (which include all the Chinese penhold ones) have rounder and shorter heads and handles, so are quicker to transition from forehand to backhand and have a larger sweet spot.

Thanks Agooding2, so that could be the reason why I prefer the square J-pen :D

No wonder most , if not all the players from China used round-shape bats and not the square one.
