AWESOME THREAD!! Interesting to see different grip positioning for different style. Seems to me that there's a trend amongst RPB players who use traditional blocks - they appear to use only middle finger, or middle & fourth fingers for support. Others such as Liu Guoliang prefer to curl the fingers. I suppose it'd be easier to pivot the blade for traditional blocks using these methods. Whereas for Wang Hao, who doesn't use traditional blocks, his last 3 fingers are in contact with the BH rubber almost always. |

Nice Silver (as always) ! BTW I notice on the second picture of He Zhi Wen the handle of the blade looks very very short. Do you know what blade is that ? |

Wasn't it supposed to be some department-store-premade-bat that he pulled the rubbers off? I wouldn't be surprised if it's been cut, sanded, banged, dropped, kicked, etc, because that handle looks pretty worn down. In any case I highly suspect that he's the type of person you can just give any blade to and he won't really care... |

I thought it was an 032 that had been lovingly re-crafted with tender precision to the table tennis work of art it is today, at least in the hand of HZW:) Really did think it was an 032. tOD |

In the first and second picture of Gao Jun you can see her "steering" it with her thumb, with the forefinger anchored. That's characteristic. I believe her grip is looser and more flexible than most. If you're interested check out this photo: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=5311&start=15#p253693 The second photo of her in this thread illustrates something I said at that link: her thumb doesn't stick up and back beside the handle as it does at times with most players; the blade also comes up, rolling under the ball of the thumb, as shown in the photo at the link. |

GREAT thread ! I just find it out today, some years after. one could see the gap between FH rubber et handle, quite interesting. Beer Belly wrote: Others such as Liu Guoliang prefer to curl the fingers. I suppose it'd be easier to pivot the blade for traditional blocks using these methods. I got this grip too ! but with a level that is a bit below than LGL ... and sorry for mistakes in english, i just start 2 years ago seriously, I don't learn it at school as child, I have to improve my level a lot ! |
