Does anyone here do this? I don't. I suspect that he's doing it wrong, but who knows...maybe I've been doing it wrong this whole time.

Mainly, I'm puzzled by how high up on the paddle the grip is. When I hold a cpen, my thumb and index fingers touch the bottom/side wood of the blade.

Imagine trying to loop with that.
The swing alone would tear the bat out of your fingers if you held it like that.

That is not even a Cpen blade, it looks more like a pic of a guy trying to show a racket, and not how to hold it. I couldn't even serve with that. Nope, you are doing it right, that pic is way wrong.

I try not to make any assumptions, since I'm new to this game compared to you guys. But that picture definitely felt wrong to me.

By the way, I'm new here, so hi! I play with a Yasaka Extra cpen set up for RPB with sriver-el on FH and sriver-fx on BH. I first started with traditional cpen, but then I took a training class and the coach suggested I learn RPB (I'm guessing because I was the only cpen player in the class, and RPB more closely matches the traditional shakehand style, so I can do the same drills as everyone else).

Welcome slimemold, and you can find no better than Silver for advice, he is widely regarded as the most experience pen-holder on this forum. And he has enough blades to prove it as well.

It just goes to show that you cannot consider the internet as a 100% trustworthy source of information. That picture is sure to destroy any budding Cpen player's chances of success.

This video is quite useful:

Here are some links to penhold grip pics.
