Mattias Falck (Karlsson) Sweden
Style: Shortpips FH, shakehand attacker
Blade: Yasaka Ma Lin Soft Carbon
FH: Yasaka XTEND PO
BH: Yasaka Pryde

Swedish player Mattias Karlsson is a male short pips forehand player, which is quite unusual today as FH pips more or less disappeared among men during the 90's. He's doing quite well and recently jumped from 6th to 3rd in the European U18 Juniors Ranking.

He shows up in three team matches and one singles match over att ITTF's itTV from the 2009 World Junior Championships.
They can be found here: http://www.ittf.com/_front_page/itTV.as ... y=ittv_New" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Some points from a match in the Swedish premier league Pingisligan. Here Karlsson (in the black shirt) is playing Kristian Karlsson (Euro Rank 7 and no relation). The match starts at about 1.22. He plays a doubles as well, starting at about 6.20.

Another couple of points against Mikael Applegren, also from Pingisligan. This is a bit of a whitewash for Karlsson (in the black shirt) and a a very nice scalp as Appelgren has one of the best won/lost records in the league. The match starts about 3.10. Again he plays the doubles starting at about 7.25.

A short clip of Karlsson (yellow and blue shirt) from the Safir tournament 2009. Only one point, but a somewhat crazy one.

There are lots of recent vids on Mattias playing (look at itTV), and he plays in the highest leauge in Sweden, in the same team as Jörgen Persson and another very good young player from Sweden - Kristian Karlsson (#186 in the world). They are in the top of the leauge and have been that almost the whole season.

Anyhow, Mattias is currently ranked #160 in the world, and today he will play this very interesting match:

12:15 8/2/2012 Table 1 16 CHTCHETININE Evgueni BLR vs 163 KARLSSON Mattias * SWE

Since it is on table 1 it will be filmed. Very interesting to see if Mattias will have some advantage of the SP on his FH... Normally young swedes are not very good against defensive players, but I am not sure about Mattias...

I am quite impressed that a European player uses shortpips FH. It is happy to see his match. In term of FH smash, he should learn from Zhan Jian who is the professional level of this style now. For master level, pls refer to Teng Yi and Johnny Huang. :D

Also look at his match against Koki, he played almost flawless. The match against Groth was a true nail-biter - phu...
This is sooo great for Swedish TT since it was many years ago we had a Swedish male single player in the final in our own tournament (Jörgen Persson won 1996, don't know if anyone else has been in the final since).
I hope he get's Kenta in the final, he was really good against Freitas, and he is fun to watch.
