I agree with this. The plastic ball sucks for blockers and defenders. All the finesse is being removed from the game. Why ITTF? Why?

W.Y. TO RETIRE ?

Right after this match, Wu Yang

the change in the ball really does
have a tremendous impact on
choppers; it's much slower and
spins a lot less than it used to. That
could be the only reason why Wu
Yang's been losing to so many
players in the past few months
(Partyka Natalia, Liu Jia and now,
Ishikawa Kasumi). Before the ball
change, Wu Yang was pretty much
indomitable.

If she does, I bet she will try LP first.
That could help her with consistency.
Probably faster blade too to make her FH even stronger.
Liu Fei did that (Defplay to JSH).

Hmm, I wonder if that will help her along. She has never relied on spin reversal, hence the short pips. But on another note, Suh Hyo Won beat Han Ying in their recent match... LP defeated the SP, which seems quite rare as well. Especially the ratings between them.

Does it appear LP is helping other choppers at all? They complain of too little spin on the ball as well, and they rely on reversal by and large. So, if the short pip chopper is losing because of too little spin... wouldn't the LP chopper have even less spin!?

Side question: is there a place to go so you can view a player's match history/records of wins and losses? I seem to recall seeing that before, but not on the new ittf site?

I'm not keeping up with ball changes in the world tour, have they changed from 2016 to 2017? Wu and Ishikawa 4-0 in germany 2016 and now 0-4 a year later. If the difference were simply made by a ball change it would be dramatic.

They changed from DHS 40+ to DHS D40+. I tried it myself: I felt there was less spin compared with the DHS 40+ for sure, but it could be perception. The ball still came back after a chop against a good loop, but the looper found it easier to loop and I found it carried less backspin.

Thanks... i hope they stop changing and finally choose a good ball... this is not good for the sport.
Even in my low leagues i'm annoied by playing with different balls every time, i can't imagine how frustrating must be for people who do this as their full time job |(
