Han Ying has a very solid defense.
I think that the constant attacks from Wu Yang were a mistake.
She was scoring more when playing more passively.
There was no rush to avoid the expedite rule in that league format.
With a proper coach, Wu Yang should have won every game.
Great match anyway!

Yep, I think Han had the better mental resolve that match.

Game 2 for example, Wu Yang was up 10-6... Wu then went on to miss 4 points on her own attacks. Talk about being hoisted on your own petard!

And in the final she was up 10-8! She then missed her next 3 attacks and lost the golden point... Not to take anything away from Han, as she stuck to her guns and got the job done. I just figured Wu would have adjusted more and stopped attacking so much, once seeing the percentages were so low. You're probably right about having her coach there - perhaps Wu was too caught in the moment to analyze her downfalls during the match.

It reminds me a bit of Ding Ning losing to Hiu Mirano, when Ding had the chance to win so many times. I think if Wu plays Han again, she would secure an easy victory.

Han Ying is the better defender.

C'mon Ludo, go talk some sense into that girl!

One interesting, though perhaps useless, tidbit of information is that Wu's ratio of shots won by attacking in comparison to defensive winners is growing ever closer to each other! Whereas Han Ying has increased her own amount of defensive winners compared to her attacks. So it seems the more classical defender is performing better as the tournament goes on.

Has Han Ying lost a match this tournament so far? I know she's lost a number of games, but from my recollection she's always gotten at least 2 of 3.

Something I noticed about Wu Yang; she is much more successful at counterlooping than attacking first.
And it's even more obvious when she plays against more passive players.
Not sure why sometime she is rushing so much to finish points while most opponents can't handle her backspin and spin variation overall.
Impressive stats nevertheless!

Well, Wu Yang trounced Liu 3-0 in their rematch from today. Like I thought, once Wu had some time to analyze her mistakes I think she can vanquish all the players in the UTT. I hope she gets a chance to avenge her loss to Han Ying!

Don't think it's been uploaded in full yet

With her last 2 victories, Wu has really put herself soundly into the ULTIMATE ONE spot -- we'll not mention the fact that she's played 2 more matches than the nearest players...

I assume the shaze challengers will win their matches, and increase the odds of Wu facing Han again in the next sessions.

As predicted, Wu Yang is beating some Han Ying butt! A 3-0 victory -- eat it, level! Eat it!

And with that victory, Wu Yang not only avenges her 2 losses, but secures her place as the ULTIMATE ONE!

 Ms. Modesty with her UTT #1 hat!

I feel a bit bad for Han Ying, came so close to going undefeated in matches. Though I do think Wu Yang is the better player and expected her to win.

Funny, in the first match it was Wu's aggression that earned her the loss. And in their second encounter, it was knowing Han Ying's reluctance to attack that allowed Wu Yang to wait for better balls to go for the kill on. The more classical defense of Han appeared to, ultimately, be her undoing. Wu had the consistency to match her in the defensive portions of the game, yet also the ability to overpower Han in the offensive shots. Han Ying banked on her own superior defensive play to essentially outlast all other players, and when that was no longer an option, she lacked the second gear to really threaten Wu with any power shots - aside from a few here and there.

Very good analysis skilless_slapper!
For the exactly same reasons you mentioned, I think that Wu Yang is the best MODERN defense player in the world. HU Limei is second with a stronger defense game but weaker offensive skills.
