People have wondered about Wegrowicz' level of play.

The video I posted above is the semi-finals of an event at last weekend's 2010 Prague Open. This was a big tournament with guys like Ovtcharov and Korbel playing in the open division. Wegrowicz also played in the open, going 1-1 in the group stage...BUT he took a set off Tomas Konecny, who is currently rated #147 in the world by the ITTF. Scores were 13-11, 10-12, 7-11, 5-11 in their match.

Wegrowicz won the mens 50-60 and another category.

Not bad for a 50+ player blocking with LPs and hitting 95% of his shots with his backhand.

Here's Wegrowicz vs ITTF-rated Konecny (unfortunately just the last two sets) and some other matches.

That guy plays just like me!! Almost a mirror image of my style... Equipment is either very low friction pips or anti.. Maybe those are older videos and he is playing frictionless.. Doesn't look like regular friction pips.. I think that he would be at least a 2000+ level player in the US but it's hard to tell from videos... I know that I don't look 2200 rated when you watch my videos.

THANK YOU, these are same great video's and I enjoy watching them (MNNB)

The recent ones are very interesting and I am still stumped, watching closely... what's happening to the ball, everything is happening so fast. When the other guy loops it a heavy reversal... but even a push is a heavy backspin... Very off putting.

Yes!!! WW play's like you Pushblocker :P , just the difference is that he has a huge smile on his face and he plays more BH than you, mate. That's pretty hard too beat 8)

He makes blocking look so simple, even his serves are deadly. I think the low toss works to his advantage, and also his return to the angles is good control. He just plays to the far right or far left, and works very well.

I hope too play like that when I feel lazy

Cheers.

Watching the clips again, it's extremely dumb founding...... The rubber reacts hugely, and has a heavy reverse or a nothing at all...

His serves wins him many points, plus when a opponent pushes, his reaction wins him points.

Can we find more info on him as I would like too know more???

I wish I knew what his setup is. Looks like a Neubauer blade and an OX rubber. He's very consistant, gets good spin-reversal with the handhold block, has a real good punch shot and has that tricky push or mini-chop. I'm sure difficult to play for players who haven't faced that style much.

I just watched him again.... his attitude is always happy!!! The opponent is totally the opposite which is perhaps another factor he wins against them.

I think his setup is treated (heavily) and I dont care... as I think he is enjoying himself

No footwork. No FH. No Tactic.
Works very effective with a close to the table blocking pimple style.

Very unusual and very awkward style! He blocks seem like chop-blocks, but the blade is open like it would be with a shop. Perhaps it's an anti-spin with some grip?

Definitely pips and a Neubauer blade (Barricade, most likely). Check out this pic I found. I wonder if it's a TSP rubber?

Ahh yes, pips alright. TSP pips tend to be all around the logo, whereas this sheet doesn't. Can't remember if all the TSP sheet are like that though...

I think he definitely has a set of tactics and he knew what he was doing. He plays within himself and he knows how to get a point in his own way. I am not sure that he has great serves though. Pips are definitely treated or FLP. What would be good is a video of him playing an opponent that knew how to play LP, then you get a chance to see what he is really made of....but I suspect it would be quite one sided [against him]

Maybe, but you have to give him credit for taking a game and losing 12-10 in another against the #147 player in the world.

Wojciech loses in these new matches. Still some good blocks and strategy to appreciate, however.
