This is the famous Dean Stretton who wrote a detailed review of available long pips (circa 2004) that was one of the main sources of LP information for a long time and is still posted all over the Internet. I wonder if he's planning an update? Interesting to see what equipment he ended up settling on.

Good to see Dean in action! I'd love to see a bit more action of him. Yes I'd like to find out what he's settled on as well, and why...

Fantastic. Some really nice twiddling in there. We really should try to contact him: he'd be a great addition to the forum!

I'm sure I've contacted him in the past, and invited him over. Would be great to have him along, I'm sure he'd have a wealth of information, especially when it comes to pips!

Dean has one of the biggest forehands I've encountered.
He killed me 3-0 but I didn't like his pips and he didn't like mine haha

Yeah, I wasn't that impressed with his chopping, his FH is on a much higher level.

Videos are hard enough to judge someone's level, let alone a single video...

You may find that the "famous"(!?) Mr Stretton is already on this forum, albeit lurking more than posting.

I took a break from table tennis from 2005 to 2009, so I didn't continue my EJ habits or the LP reviews. Good to see that plenty of others did though! I'm happy with the Giant Dragon Meteorite for the moment (very good spin reversal on chops, and it can attack and low push when you need it to), so no plans for an update of the reviews any time soon.

Thanks to Stephen Tai for the video. I had no idea what I look like when I play. The forehand is OK; now I just have to work on...everything else. :P

Great to have you along Algernon!!

Your article comparing the pips was an eye-opener for me... it got me real interested in testing some of the ones you described, and look for the properties that you mention. At the time there seemed to be NO such information anywhere!

I'm curious how you developed your knowledge... was it purely by analysing and testing the rubbers yourself, or did you get advice and talk to a coach or other player, that had in-depth knowledge about pips? It is pretty rare in Australia to find people that have a good understanding of pips, and can coach about the strokes beyond the basics...

@dingwol2 -- almost! It was actually an old Canberra/ACT shirt with the same colour scheme. But I do have an OOAK shirt too!

@haggisv -- it was pretty much all through testing them. At that time I had a very patient weekly training partner who was happy to put up with me trying out new LPs every week or two (as well as giving me feedback on what they were like to play against, and sometimes having a go with them himself too).

I really like some of the video reviews that places like World Rubber Market do (albeit that's in Japanese). It would be great to put together an OOAK series of video reviews on, say, the 10 most popular LPs.

That's a great idea... it would really need a few of us together in one place to do it though... I'd love to be involved, but certainly don't have the time to do it all by myself. I bought a slo-mo camera to try and take some vids of the ball, to show spin-reversal, sensitivity to spin, etc, but that sort of thing takes a lot of effort...
