He uses Spectol (SP) on BH.

Spectol isn't a spinny rubber, either. Rumour has it he uses a softer sponge than the standard Spectol sponge though.

That was one of the best games I've watched in ages, partially because the angle was AWESOME for watching how quickly the ball travels at this level.

Hou's chopping was sublime there, much better than I've seen him chop in the past. Usually he struggles on the really heavy topspin loops, he tends to chop high and long, but against Ovtcharov he caught everything beautifully.

Was some really heavy backspin chops but also he subtly floated quite a few which Ovtcharov missed on more than one occasion.

Only time he seemed to lose points was when they went loop to loop on the forehand.

I know, I know. I kinda always wanted to end up as a SP chopper, but I know it's not good for me to swap back and forth.

Will give it a quick go for fun tonight because as always with SPs I'll get frustrated within a matter of points!

Well, that was fairly hilarious

One of the best players in our local league offered me a knock. I told him I was trying a new SP on my backhand (the Super SpinPips Chop Sponge 2) and that I might be fairly awful. He had no problem with that, so we gave it a go.

10 chops later I hadn't put a single one on the table and all of them had gone unbelievably high (like smash high). Plus, I missed quite a few wide of the table (as well as long) from his backhand's natural sidespin.

I then moved to my LPs and started to actually get some on. He's still phenomenally spinny but when I caught them right with the LPs they went back absolutely loaded and he really struggled to get the next one on.

Glad I went back to the SPs for those 10 chops though, reminds me that I'm nowhere near good enough to play with them...!

It takes a lot of practice for the SPs, especially against a spinny as hell looper. I've stuck with Neubauer Pistol for about 30 hours worth of TT. They're not as reactive to spin as Spectol. I like that I can easily attack lame balls on the BH and that occasionally I can drive instead of push.

I met 2200 level female chopper who used Joola Extreme Explode as her BH rubber for chopping. I commented that I thought it would be way too fast. She said, "Oh it's a thin sponge. 2.0mm." Point is, I guess anything's possible!
