Sharad Pandit is a high level player who uses short pips on both sides (like Johnny Huang). At one time he gave the following tips to the forum on playing short pips:

Two or three things I try to pay attention to are:

1. Hitting during the ascending phase of the ball rise.

2. Making sure that my head says steady and my neck is not hyper-extended ! This for me is an important issue because it really controls the tension in the shoulder and the arm. Then when you make mistakes slowly the body becomes tense and then everything falls apart. I would have to show this in person if I am not explaining well on paper. It is something I have stumbled upon and seems to make a big difference for me.

3. Making sure my breathing is right between points.

4. Not having a big backswing and waiting for the ball to come to the bat and not being in a rush to get rid of it. As Stellan Bengston says, ' You need to cherish it and not be in a hurry to get rid of it' I hope some of it helps some.

Sharad is a good stroke maker he seems to have a little topspin on the backhand but forehand is all whamo lol,
I saw him in NZ a few years ago, and he realy plays a young mans style
he was very competative on serving, third ball attack, and always putting pressure on his opponents

regarding spin on attacks, they need not be ultra spinny to be very effective indeed, this disadvantage can be overcome. but I really admire the ability to achieve quality serves with SP as it is certainly difficult to make strong topspin or backspin serve with SP

BTW at the Aussie Vets he was using Tango Ultra short pips on a think sponge. And I think Styx is almost a medium Pip?

And I think it was a diffent balde I think a Tibhar

Edit: I did a little detective work with regard to his blade but then decided not to share it. After all, he probably just changed the handle on his Stiga Ultralight, right? I apologize.
