Just stumbled across this guy looking at worlds videos. Not textbook chopping strokes.

Not a bad player if he can manage it into the WTTC. Twiddles a lot. He just couldn't handle the pace and the deception (serves) from a top 10 player.

According to the latest ranking (released after WTTC) he is #178 in the world (185 before WTTC).

that is one inefficient forehand chop, what a crazy stoke he has
also his bh chop isn't that consistent also, but i guess that works.

Looks like his mistakes come from his twiddling. He's certainly not a bad player though...

I agree, he chops better on FH with inverted (perhaps because he then doesn't twiddle). But sometimes he twiddles and attacks with BH. He's got a consistent and heavy BH-chop though. Any idea what equipment he is using?

I liked the beginning of 4th set. When Jun was a little relaxed, Sas immediately won lots of points :) . You can never relax against a chopper

Always nice to hear he wins from one of my fellow-countrymen.

I agree with Haggisv he makes some of his mistakes due to his twiddling.

I think a lot of the 'bad' fh's come from Jun putting the ball in a nasty place. And probably doing other top-10 nasty things. It's unfair to evaluate a guys game based only on playing someone 160 spots higher but thats all we have to look at.

Unorthodox form is always an interesting question. Did it get him to 170WR or is it holding him back from top-50?? Both?

I would definitely put Sas in the classic defender category which makes him unusual even among the unusual male 'defenders' who tend to be chopper-loopers now days.

I saw him match against the lower player and he made him look very stupid just destroyed him and lots of backhand hit kills.

Here he looks like a classic defender, in that match though he took advantage of any loose ball to put it away easily.

I would call that a classic defender who pick-hits a lot.

To me the difference in a classic and modern defender is the relative importance of the forehand loop vs the forehand chop in their game. Chtchetinine is definitely a fh chopper who attacks occasionally. Gionis sometimes goes a whole match without chopping a forehand. Joo is right around the dividing line where both shots are critical to his game. Seems to actually chop more with tenergy than he was with glue.

To me the difference between a Modern Defender and Classic Defender. Modern defender attacks as much as possible when its to his advantage. Classic Defender attacks only when he believes he has a very decent chance to end the point by attacking.

Here is his WTTC match vs Mizutani I must say he has one horrible FH chop its something I would see from a basement player, his BH chop look good even though again its not a correct technique. He managed to take 1 set away from Mizutani so hey who im I to say if its not proper technique enjoy

Thx for posting the vid again, chop-king. :) The first video in this topic was apparently removed by its uploader and was also the match between him and Mitzu. Horrible music, btw. :puke:
