A singles and doubles match(with a non-chopper partner) up at ittv korean open

He lost in u21 but beat Jiang Tianyi in mens first round after beating Zhan Jian in the groups

He is scheduled live tonight on the tv table against Ryu

The kids backhand looked good to me including some pretty blocks and hits.
The forehand seems weak. The chop is too easy to attack and the loop doesn't win often enough.
I also thought he stood to far to the backhand. Doesn't seem like a guy with top chinese coaching would do that but he got beat wide to the forehand an awful lot.
Of course when the opponent is an Olympic gold medalist weaknesses can glare!

Maybe he just needs a bit more experience. This year's Korean Open was the first time he had ever participated in an ITTF international event and, for his debut, I don't think he did too badly. His overall record for the U-21 Open and Men's Open singles events combined was 5-2, losing only to Chen Chien-An and a former Olympic gold medalist.

I'm personally looking forward to more appearances from this guy. I really hope he has moderate success and receives more opportunities to play so that I have another modern chopper whose form and technique I can drool over. To put it simply, as of the 2011 Korean Open, I am a Liu Yi fanboy.

I think his topspin based forehand isn't too bad at all (it's like Chen's). And the guy can also hit or driveloop if he needs to. Just more experience at the higher level will bring this guy to a great level/rating. That is, if he wasn't Chinese. When the time is there, he'll need to compete with his robot looping brothers. I don't know he'll make that. But if he does, he's going to win more than one major title.

the shot at 2.20 was rare although ryus serve bounced up invitingly.looks like the f/hand needs a lot of work

His powershots with his forehand can be improved, but he's still young, so that should not be a problem. What he already have, is a nice variation/placement with his forehand.

Liu Yi has 4(FOUR!) matches up on ittv japan open.

He beat Yoshida Kai in the mens first round. Not one of the tv matches.

Today the new world ranking was released and Liu Yi entered as unregistered at position 73
When did it last happend that a new defender entered that high? But seriously, is he really better than Ruwen Filus? I think that when new players enters the ranking they tend to be a tad overrated. Time will tell. Anyhow, it is great that he has that high ranking, it will make it easier for him to enter tournaments without having to qualify and China will probably let him play some more tournaments. And we can enjoy his game through video even more
