Maybe as he did know, that the team could not advance to the next round any more. Düsseldorf won the first encounter 3-1 and was leading 2-0 in the second. So he was probably a bit disapointed going into the match.

To be honest, even in such a situation, you should give your very best, but it is just human if this had an effect to his game.

Kind Regards

I understand your reasoning. But it's not the first time he gets in that kind of mood.

LOL guys, I don't understand what's your :swear: problem with Wang.. It's not like he didn't want to win..
Somehow you all think that a defender is a machine that just have to fly around the court all the time, but that's not the case. I find it normal for some sets to be one sided.. In my opinion wang was just overpowered at first, he just wasn't able move at this fastest and at the same time he was trying to figure out how to play vs achanta.

I didn't understand the problem either... He's indeed only human and I think it's  that he kept so calm after still losing that final set.

The problem is this: if I'm a spectator, I expect that the one playing for our team gives it all. He didn't look like he did that. Just look at the attitude of Achanta in comparison. ;)

This somtimes happens when Wang faces one that has no problems reading the spin from his pips. And Achanta is good at flat hitting. Wang tried to defend from both wings but never found the rythm in the first two. Also, he missed a lot. Then he played more aggressive it got better. But he ws i. Lead 10-6 in the last set and there I actually don't think he wanted to win or perhaps his coach told him not to. That would have lead to another single and they still could not win the whole match. And maybe his team didn't want another single for some reason (just speculating).

That's what I also noticed when watching some of his games in the past. Still it's no example for young players, especially young defenders. One of the key character traits of a defender is to have a fighting spirit. He might have that, considering his return in the game (or Achanta got a weaker period during the game). But heck: show it then already...

Wang Yang will be playing Chinese Superleague for Guangdong Chen Jing. So with Joo Sae Hyuk(Ningbo Haitian) and Ma Te(Tianjin Bohai Bank) there are at least three defenders in this years Superleague. (German source: http://www.mytischtennis.de/public/international/4784/chinas-superliga--wer-spielt-fuer-welches-team)

Wang Yangs team consists of:

Liu Jikang, Wang Yang, Yin Hang, Yin Jingyuan, Liu Yanan, Liu Weiheng

So no real major names which might give him a bigger oppertunity to make some matches.

Kind Regards

No, I didn't forget Ma Te ;)

But thanks for pointing out Liu Yi. I actually didn't know him, as I've not folowed the World University Championships.

So four defenders. This is a good ratio I think.

Kind Regards

Joo didn't play, but he was cheering and supporting his team in the background. While Wang Yang was mainly coached by his (young) team members after each set, Ma Long was only coached by the team coach. Joo didn't (need to) give him advice.

I'm not sure, but I think Wang Yang was playing with a JSH-blade, not a Matsushita Pro or a VKM as before...
