He eventually got going in the third game against Bai but then at 3-0 up in the fourth Bai got two incredibly lucky, unreturnable nets in a row and it totally killed Wang's momentum. Agreed though, seriously rusty in the first end in particular.

Thank you very much for such a great example of SP chopping!

It was good to see the SP chops even causing Timo to sometimes hit the net!

I am learning to play a SP chopping game on BH and this was a very good post!

Nice videos Def-Attack!

That German league sure is impressive!

Wang was laying down some REAL nice chops!

There are more vids every week. Just click on "Spieler" to the right on that site and choose his name, and you will have all his vids. He hasn't been as successful this season as last. Perhaps he is a slow starter or his opponents are learning his style?

A match from yesterday:
http://tv.ttbl.de/vs-frickenhausen-hagen-wang-yoshimura

Oh... by the way... from last week:
http://tv.ttbl.de/vs-ochsenhausen-frick ... n-ryu-wang

Wang tricked Ryu many times with disguised spin from his SP. But when Ryu was in position for attack he blasted Wang away...

That game for me almost perfectly displays the pros and cons of using SPs to chop.

Ryu had an absolute nightmare reading the spin from Wang's chops and pushes, all throughout the game. He adjusted to it by playing a slow, almost gentle opening loop rather than going for the kill. Wang should've capitalised on that by attacking it. I don't think Ryu ever truly got a handle on reading the spin.

But, at the same time, Wang simply COULD NOT chop against Ryu's powerloops. He got one or two back but probably seventy five percent of the time it was a direct point for Ryu.

In my humble opinion it's because with SPs, especially the spinny ones, you need to really chop through the ball when facing a high amount of topspin. When the ball is coming at you as quickly as it does from Ryu, it's incredibly (INCREDIBLY) difficult to make a full chopping motion in time. With LPs you can make a smaller chopping motion and although the spin won't be great (if any) at least it's easier to control and get back.

I don't think there is a defender in the world who can take on Ryu sung min. He also beat Wang Xi.

You're right. He always beat Joo easily. Ruwen Filus blasted Ryu away in one set, but then lost (video is at The same site as Wang's match). Another match in some Pro Tour I think, Ruwen followed Ryu closely for a few sets but did not win. He attacked with BH a lot if I remember right.

last time Sun Jian Fei went to Korea he beat Ryu and lost to Joo....ill see if i can get the whole story, but i truly think the only way to beatr ryu would be to have a majorly offensive game.

Impressive.

I think you're right. You need wide angles. He is very fast on his feet.

First Wang played Ryu and then, in the same team match, he played Gauzy. But he changed bat between those two matches. He usually has a black SP on BH, but in the first match he used a red rubber on BH :o ! That is odd. Or perhaps he knew that he had to to something spectacular to beat Ryu and tried another bat, but changed back to his normal for the last match? Any ide what he used against Ryu?

HI,

actually it was a bit different and not in a very good way.

Before the first match against Ryu, Wangs bat was declared illegal as his forehand was 0.1mm to thick. That was 1min before the match and Wang had forgotten his secondary bat.

Düsseldorfs #4 Ricardo Walther had a bat with LP with him which he borrowed Wang. With that bat he played the first match. As you might see he had some problams with his attacks.

In the second match he played with the blade of his Teammate Qui Liang, but this was an offensive blade. I don't know if they have glued some pips onto the blade, but at least he twiddled so I think he had pips in the second match. Because of the faster blade he had some problems with his chopping in that match.

For German speaking users:

http://forum.tt-news.de/showpost.php?p=2495750&postcount=36

I think this is very unprofessional and the Coach of Frickenhausen was also not very pleased. At the event were three tabletennis shops (Adidas, Donic and Butterfly) and they did not buy a defensive blade for Wang.

Kind Regards

:O That's pretty amazing... in a bad way!!

Before you posted that, I was watching the video vs Ryu wondering why their warmup consisted of Yang and Ryu pushing to Yang's backhand. I also then watched the video vs Gauzi and it looked an awful lot like Yang's backhand was inverted.

If you watch the video again, I'm pretty sure it actually is inverted!

To play as well as he did with LPs then inverted is fairly incredible.
