That final set is great to watch! Sometimes I have the impression that Ma Te would be better of with long pips to have better control for chopping back heavy loops.

I think defending with SP isn't viable anymore: at least at the top level. Except when your name is Hou Yingchao. :D

I wonder why all chinese defenders are raised with short pips....

Here's Ma vs Ma:

Lorre,

The Survey (tests) of matinspin on all Pimples tend to show so far that medium and short pimples is likely to be the more effective rubbers with the new polyball. Bigger, harder with low grip pimples tend to dominate in all category of style. ( offense, defense, all around...) Probably due to the bigger and heavier ball. Too thin and too soft rubber tand to not stand the weight and the size of the new ball.

It's more tradition and believe in spin variation than anything else. Why are all South Korean defenders raised with LPs? Same question.

His tests show this. However, I don't take his tests seriously.

I really think it's LP. And he just chops in a unique way. But I have been wrong about this before. We need a good pic!

Look at 44:05 in this one, where he warms up BH using pips. And look at his attacks, and gentle BH chops, must be SP.
http://youtu.be/pyidDQTGY-4

But in that new match above he chops with more force and more like he was using LP. But he still blocks and attacks like he has SP. And I think many chops has too little back spin for comming from LP.

yup, i agree with that
that's why jike always miss read spin and put ball 10cm over table

I think it was a LP.

The lift shot(last point) and many swipes were done with LP like technique.

I think it's a SP disguised as a LP or...
a LP disguised as a SP.
Must be something new!
