Thanks for your answers, I've only just come across them unfortunately I missed the reply notifications!

Shibutani blade, are there any blades around right now that would be similar?

Why, did I miss something? Is he retiring?

Sadly it’s mostly just edited portion with sentences cut off midway, saying things like, “hit the ball firmly”, “be relaxed”, “this chop is the same”. The first one says he is on StigA and enjoy the video (roughly translated).

It’s actually frustrating because the way Japanese is set up, with half the sentence gone it’s hard to try and mentally translate since everything is backward. And cause these are so quick I guess on some of them. Regardless, you won’t get anything of substance from his speaking. Watching on the other hand....

Does anyone know his equipment? The blade in the All Japan 2017 videos doesn't look like defplay or his own shiono blade...

Someone posted this while ago

Shiono Masato, 30, currently a reserve player of the JNT, has announced in a blog entry on Nov 16th that he will retire after the All-Japan Championships next January. He attributed to chronic injuries in the elbow, shoulder and lower back as the main reason behind his decision.

I just saw on MyTT... is this the true reason behind his retirement? I hope this is not true :(

"Some well informed person told me recently that Shiono is seriously ill. He spoke about cancer, that is what he was told by pro players in the world tour."
