The back hand smash.....uses it more then her forehand loops. I love it!

Finally, a pro chopper I can try to emulate who attacks with the backhand! She's very fast on the twiddle too. Slow brained codgers like myself just have to play with inverted on the back hand

Is there a term for such styles? "Reverse" modern defender?

2016 Czech Open Highlights: Maki Shiomi vs Honoka Hashimoto (1/2)

This seems to be the full match:

What I find interesting here is that Shiomi uses pips (probably short) on the FOREHAND. Inverted on the backhand. She even flips the bat around when serving off the forehand.

I notice her rubbers aren't listed here.

That BH hit she does is really impressive!

Her chopping stroke sort of resembles Shiono's. She seems to take the ball really high, though - any idea why?

it is a very effective stroke but quite difficult. It's called a rip chop. You take the ball while it raise and you chop it vertically. The angle is quite steep and ball difficult to hit back as it has its coming like a rocket that is going to land with tons of backspin. More chopper used this chop. Weixing is also doing this chop. It give the defender a nearer position to the table as the ball need to be taken as it raises. It is difficult as you are near the table so ball coming fast at you but it give you beter position to counter attack when needed.[imageright][/imageright]

Thx for the explanation, maddrag. Were you intending to post some pictures, seeing the [imageright][imageright] thing? They weren't posted.

Any word on her backhandd rubber? I see super do knuckle being listed, but having used that im not too sure! It has very low grip and bad reversal...
