...and a close up, Xu Xiaofeng's blade,from the same tournement, the penholder twiddler-blocker , there was a thicker sponge under his lp...seems like 1.5 , even thicker...

I love Zhang Guochi's offensive use of his LP against Chen Weixing, especially at 5:43, 11:04, and 13:31.

His favorite shot with LP (lift-loop?) is strange but effective - at least I did not see it before. How does it work?

Unless I am not seeing it correctly, I believe that is the same shot I like to do lol. Basically just lift the ball up, the paddle being around vertical and pointing down. Dont just go in the ball but finish with upward motion which is what I mean when saying lift the ball. If you have never done it it will take some time to do it often without messing up. Its not too hard to do against some short backspin serves and easier against backspin in general and it will come back with some weird long pip effect and also as topspin back to your opponent so its strange for them (until they get used to it).
I dont even try it against topspin shots.

I guess exaggerated upward motion helps to bend the pips and impart all this LP goodness. Need to try it.

It's an Interesting style and very effective. I have to smile while watching him playing against Kreanga and Weixing...

I had some difficulties with the 388D-1 0.8mm; while the ball trajectory is indeed very ugly for the opponent, placing a ball tightly over the net and into the edge was very, very difficult. I had to play the ball more safely in order to get it in the area where I wanted it to be. It's a lot easier to do with the Yinhe 955 and that rubber also allows me to drive and counter the ball with ease and way more tightly compared to the 388D-1.

If you watch Dr Neubauer's training DVDs you'll see that he uses that stoke frequently, and often when the ball is far lower than the awkwardly-high balls that Zhang was going after. I call it the 'mudflap' stroke and I use it to good effect with OX LP. Few will serve short backspin to me once they experience my mudflap second ball attack.

So this amateur is serving serves pro's can't read, mudflaps balls pro's can't read and thereby beats three European pro's in a row? Am I the only one questioning these games?
