I rewatched Ayhika's games against the Chinese to get some insight as to what she does, as I play with pretty much the same set-up. She has such a simple game:

A push into her backhand FLanti gets counter pushed, either short or deep
A topspin to her backhand FLanti gets blocked or slow countered
A push to her forehand gets counter pushed or touched back
A topspin to her forehand gets blocked or countered
She rarely twiddles or hits aggressively with the FLanti

She patiently waits for her opponents to make a mistake or to pop one up so she can attack. No fancy looping of underspin balls or getting into long countering rallies.

Serves seem to be mostly simple backhand underspin, often with the anti, which must be mostly dead. For some reason her opponents aren't able to tee off on those, like my opponents do. She throws in occasional pendulum, but it is rare.

It is probably way more complex than I observe, but I really like her style. Apparently the Chineses do not.

When she serves with anti, it is well placed, low and short. To flip a spinless ball is difficult and it is also difficult to be agressive on such a serve. Also, with her anti (it is suposed to be Gorilla, right?) there may be a little spin from serves, like with a long pimlple ox.

What surprised me is that the opponent never dared to BHbattack against the anti-push. The same happened when Akula beat the Chinese #3 in three straight games, she always, like a robot, pushed against the lp-block with BH. Why?

She also has very good footwork is always where she needs to be. Furthermore she can make very sharp angles for opponents and can hide what she's going to do with her body.

So I tried the antspin serve tonight, and it was surprisingly effective. Giving it a hard underspin motion, which probably produces a deadish ball, got returns that were either high, weak, or cautious. I could vary them from slow and short, slow and long, and fast and long. Only occasionally did my opponents rip one last me, but that was probably when I telegraphed it or got it too high. I could also intersperse a similar looking serve with the spinny side, and the change-up was effective. Certainly simplifies the service game and is something I need to incorporate more.

I agree, I think that serve can be a very effective one, especially if you can serve with the same motion with a spin rubber on the other side.

Igor, instead of complaining, just learn to play against it.

I read Ayhika was still using Neubauer Gorilla against the Chinese.

Message to bbkon: Gorilla is very fast. It requires an extremely delicate touch.

If Gorilla is fast, that helps explain Ayhika's effectiveness. I tried out pushing really fast with my Diabolic Special, and though I am inconsistent, if I get it right, I get a lot of loose balls or outright misses. That must be part of the secret to counter pushing with FLanti. Those fast pushes are really tough, as they actually have topspin. Slow pushes are too easy for my opponent to handle. Gotta work on making them fast..

Have a look at Sriram Sushmit, he also uses Gorilla on BH (and short pimples on FH)

Sushmit is great with the flanti but Neumann's play is brilliant too. Both very good players! Great match and thanks for sharing.
