Ni Xia Lian is a female ph sp/lp twiddler. Here she is against Gao Jun(sp ph) in the recent us open final. I think Gao is one of the last people in the world a long pips player would want to play!

Link is to game one. More games on the menu to the side.

Ni used to use 802(??-40??) 2.0 and 837 ox. I guess lately she switched to tsp endorsing and is using one of their sp and one of the curl variants

Thanks bcbcbc!

I was most impressed with some of the retrun of serves... these top players place the ball so well, sets up the whole game. I also noticed a lot of serves were deep... not so many short serves like you normally see... perhaps because of the pimples involved make this too dangerous?

Normally we serve half-long to a looper because the supershort ball is trouble in that they can flip wide angle, and the long ball gives them the full swinging loop. Against these women i would guess that the ball they hit off a half-long serve isn't all that different from what they give you off a long serve, and they're so good at angling the ball that you want to minimize or manage the angles by keeping the ball deep.

That's my guess anyway.

Is she still playing with 837? That was what I heard; inspite of the sponsorship...but rumors abound.
Thanks,

hi!

Ni Xia Lian is apparantly in her mid 40ies, but still is in the top 50.. she twiddles with short and long pimples and its probably the weirdest style i`ve seen so far..she sometimes even plays long pimples forehand smash.. :alien:

would be nice to know with which rubbers she plays with...

That's a very unique style... She plays impressive but as other said, Jun Gao matches up so well against long pips... I doubt that she ever loses to long pips players...

Ni actually twiddles to LP only after serving. If she twiddles to SP during the rallies, she might be able to avoid a lot of misses as hitting with LP require very much more precision than doing with SP. I think, for this part Chen Qing does better.
