It doesn't happen too often that a modern defender beats Timo Boll, but it happened last week as Wang Xi made two spectacular comebacks to win 3-0. Xi, who is 22-3 in the Bundesliga this year, may currently be the best modern defender in the world.

No doubt that Wang Xi is skilled. I don't quite get it that he's not listed amongst the top 50 (if Gionis is in the top 50 then Wang should be there too). Is it because he plays the German league only and not international competition?

p.s. the megaupload video - the sound is out of sync?

He certainly should be rated. He's been smoking a lot of top 50 guys! I guess he can't get in to the tournaments due to all the strong Chinese players.

Yes it's the Chinese association where he doesn't play a major role. So he can't play int. competitions.. :(

I totally agree. However, he beat Boll with 3-0, something that in my eyes shows how close both their levels of play are in normal circumstances.

Boll had problems (strain at warming up). However good job by Wang Xi

OT: I watched the 2nd match of Wang Xi vs. Kishikawa on DTTL.tv DUring the match it was mentioned that his team Fulda might get problems to qualify for ECL because Wang is not listed at world rankings. The WR points of the 3 players in each team are added. Additional to league results the teams need a certain amount of WR points to play Champions League. :^)

I haven't seen this clip myself yet, but I have been told that Shibaev had 2-0 and 10-3. Guess who won :)

Here is the whole match: http://www.laola1.tv/en/int/table-tenni ... 34100.html
And another one against Primorac in the same team match: http://www.laola1.tv/en/int/table-tenni ... 34098.html

Two recent matches in Champions leauge, with a different camera angle:
http://www.laola1.tv/en/int/table-tenni ... 38410.html
http://www.laola1.tv/en/int/table-tenni ... 38402.html

Seems like catching up is Wang's speciality... in the first match, the third set, he was down 0-7 and almost managed to catch up, lost 9-11. And he lost the match 1-3.
