I was just watching Jesus Cantero of Spain against Boll on ITtv. It seems to me this powerful Spaniard is using short pips on his J-pen. Must be one of the very few Europeans to use pen-grip, at that. Please, who can, post vids of this guy!

Awesome Game, very close and interesting. Seems like Timo has a few critical moments of distraction. Doesn't seem like he really lost control.

his serves reminds me of liu guoliang's. and the rest of his game reminds me of wang zeng yi. He's a great player very nice to watch. However all the credits go Timo Boll he overcomes every sp hitter with his balanced two winged looping game.

Yes, very good but his world rating is only around 300.
Short pip FH.
RPB.
I can't tell if it is a JPen or CPen bat though.

Here is another video clip:

That is fast work, MNNB! And it is C-pen, obviously; I was mislead by the blade looking sort of squarish in the vid. Could Cantero be influenced by or even trained by He Zhi wen?

His ranking for May 2010 is 283; for April 2009 it was 374; for May 2008 it was 414. He is climbing. And in my opinion he gave Boll such a hard time that the match could have gone either way, which isn't half bad for nr 283 against nr 3. Anyhow, Cantero definitely has my sympathy. It is wonderful to see a male European player in a classic Chinese style at this level.

That is Cpen but the shoulders are a little higher than most Cpens I have seen which slope a bit more sharply from the handle. This is almost like a Hock blade changed to a Cpen, although I am sure that is not what he has done. I am amazed that a Cpen has emerged from Spain, and that too a tue Spaniard, and not a Chinese or other Asian guy who has migrated to Spain. Go Pen!!!!! :D

Most likely the form of the blade has been chosen deliberately. It suggests a low sweet-spot, which to a pips-out player is a definite advantage.

Yes, I enjoy watching Cantero play. Thanks for the videos.
His playing style is so, well, Chinese. It is more Chinese than say Xu Xin's!
I wonder if he's had a very good Chinese coach.

New video from the WTTC 2013 in Paris

http://cdn.laola1.tv/ittf/iframe/player ... TERO_SILVA

And another one, an exhibition match (Spain vs Germany) on his birth town, Puerto Real, vs Stefen Mengel.

His coach when young was Wang Jin Fu, and continued his influence with Jorge Gambra, both c-pen SP hitters. He was spanish champion at Alevin (10-11 years old) , Juvenil (16-18 y.o.) and U-21 vice-champion, bronze at 2009 mixed doubles Universiade with Sara Ramirez. He played in Germany and Denmark, dunno where he's playing actually.
