Thanks for posting the videos.. Her style amazes me.. One thing that I don't understand is how her opponent wasn't able to put away her anti pushes?? I can't imagine that those had a lot of spin and they were high.. There definetely must be something to it that I can't see.

She plays very active strokes and must be confusing opponents with variable spins from her different sideswipes. A player at About.com said he hit with her for 20 minutes and it made his head spin after a few rallies.

I read that.. I still wonder how you can create so much variation with anti... I usually like to play against anti as returns are usually spinless bus she seems to be able to produce so much variation with it..

Maybe david has her match from the U21 finals. She won in the 6th against a junior girl from india who played at the table with inverted and i think long pips - it was reminiscent of the 70 and over category i had watched earlier, with a little more footwork. Amelie was very nice and happy after the match, patiently chatting with all the old chinese-looking guys who wanted to talk to her and look at her racket.

@tod- according to dkpech she used the joola amy control in 0,4..

Thanks,
blade?/forehand?
Thomas

At one time she was supposed to be using the Neubauer Combo Effect. Her website (solja.de) claims she uses all Joola stuff (Chen Weixing Defender/Tango Ultra/AMY 1.0). We know she was using Diamant, so she may be using the Combo Effect still.

First of all: Thanks for all these great videos (Credit to dkpech I think!!) DUring the final set I noticed two guys in the background talking about her rubbers and mentioning "Diamant/Diamond" for forehand. Her backhand??

Joola AMY? If so it seems to play similar to her former Anti (DrN/Gorilla). And honestly if your sponsor produces a rubber for you including your own name, why not having a try with it?

Apart I like her way of playing in that final set! She could do more of those FH hitting. It makes this special style look more evil

Whatever: Hooray for this performance:D  ! It would be a pleasure to see her beating the Chinese top women one day!!

How old is Amelie? whats good about her is she is different, persistant and tries hard. In some of the vids she would miss an easy forehand but she didnt go off talking to herself she just goes ahead to try and win the next point.

from a coaching point of view she has her wrong leg leading for her backhand (but it dosn't matter because she gets them back) someone like AA will square up to the ball. So it just goes to show that there are many successful styles and we don't want all Jnrs just to play 3rd ball looping. I'm not sure if she will beat the top players but some might struggle if she keeps improving

Wow! Two of our favorites. Amelie Solja (antispin backhand/medium pips forehand) vs Katharine Michajlova (short pips backhand)...

I just heard from Amelie herself :hello1: :notworthy: and she confirmed she does indeed play with Joola Amy. I'll show her this thread, and hopefully she'll be willing to answer a few questions.

I still continue to find her style amazing and tremendously intersting to watch.

I wonder what her caloric burn is for a tournament??

Amelie used red gorilla in 2008 wj and black amy in 2009 us open. Here she has red on the backhand again. I wonder if this is an older vid, a signiificant rubber change or just red amy.

Her style looks somewhat different here. More chop-block bh and fh block/attack rather than the relentless bh side/punch. Could be just what the opponent is forcing on her, though.
