I have the Defence II. What is the difference to Defence alpha? Bigger headsize but same material?

I hear the alpha is considerably slower but with of course with more control than the II. Judging from what I've read I think it's suited to a more classical defence game.

Chtchetenine is doing very well in Moscow now. He beat Gorak of Poland in straight sets. It is miraculous to watch his forehand chopping - most of the balls bounce high but are so heavy with backspin that his opponents can't lift them anyway! Must be his 1.0 mm Triple Chop. But his attacks lack power, that's the downside.

That kind of ball would give me a major headache. How many players have practiced looping/hitting that kind of ball?
Not me.

That WAS epic!

Wonderful to see Evgueni doing a little better aggresively with his f/h now. I wonder if he's changed to a slightly thicker sponge?

Video starts after about :45 seconds. I personally find Chtchetinine to be the most interesting player to watch on the men's ITTF tour. At 40-years-old, we'd better enjoy him while we can. He's likely the last of the top level two-wing choppers (although there are still some on the women's side).

This is another style soon to be eliminated from our sport compliments of the ITTF.

Now I see why Samsonov has so little trouble with JOO's game. He must practice with Chtchetinine all the time!
