While on some levels I think what you are saying could be true, based on the video you used as an example, I'll have to take the ironic interpretation of what you said. In that case I agree  : I can't understand how some people could claim defense vs defense is boring! Awesome match!

Am I watching a different video :? I don't see the players both standing way back from the table chopping the ball to each other, or standing up close and just pushing the ball back all the time, forgoing the opportunity to take advantage of any lose returns. I see two players, one looping and smashing or touching the ball over the net bringing the other player in or out and the other returning the ball with chop or float variations and running in to attack any lose returns. This is the type of table tennis I like to watch and to me at least the video you've provided is a great contrast in styles within the points - certainly not boring defence verses boring defence.

Most "defenders" I see tend to defend off mainly their backhand but will attack with vigour any poor returns their opponent gives them ie pop up balls or badly placed shots so they are really only defenders up to a point - perhaps counter attackers would better suit them.

Now if it was just two anti spin players batting the ball back to each other waiting for one or the other to make a mistake and lose the point it would be different....

Now, that would be good, quality table tennis!

Haven't had to face a fellow anti player yet, but anti is a most effective attacking rubber when someone defends against it :D

I may be a better coach than a player, why? My son now tells me what is wrong with my game!

Great exhibition of the modern defender style...
