Should i post here if i don't have the actual video? Her match against moon hyun jung at the english open is on the ittf player (ittf.com). Short pip backhand chopper with a relatively assertive approach. Her shots are not as severe as the men or irene ivancan, but tactical things such as the placement of chops are more aggressive than the korean or russian choppers, and she's willing to hit from both sides.

Tks

I don't see any evidence of pips in this match. Both sides are very smooth and shiny when light reflects. She serves deep and heavy with the red/bh and loops with the black/fh.

Any relation to Don Parker?

I thought there was another match of hers on ittf but can't find it right now.
Edit: found it! China open, 1st round vs Liu Shiwen

No.

Donald Parker does have a daughter called Katie Parker who I think was the youngest girl to represent England when she played in the Commonwealth games. She too used short pimples. However, she stopped playing when still young and is now North West England Regional Coach. She is at the English Open, but in an offical capacity, not as a player.

When I watched Joanna Parker play for England against India in Preston I'm sure she was using pimples. According to Tees Sports website she uses raystorm.

I agree that it looks smooth on video, but i've made this mistake with other players before; pips can look flat from a distance and i can never be sure by looking. I can't say i saw the pips on her racket, but there were times when she ran around to chop with her backhand.

She is playing for the UK in the World Champs in Moscow now. Not half bad either! But black is smooth and so is red, I'm pretty sure of that. My guess would be she's not a pimples player. Perhaps very thin inverted or more likely anti for red. This girl has good tactics!

She's supposedly switched to inverted on both sides and was using this at the recent english closed, which she won. I think she is still playing double inverted (Tenergy? I'm pretty sure). However, I think it was short pips on 1 side at the english open earlier in the year. It might be on english website, that's where I most likely read the above.

antipip is right about Joanna Parker using double inverted - as has been noted by MNNB on another thread about chopping with inverted.

I contacted Joanna Parker through a mutual friend and she said:

"I do not use pimples now. I used to use short pimples on the backhand but
changed a year ago to Tenergy both sides. However I use thin sponge 1.7
on the backhand and 1.9 on the forehand. I like using smooth rubbers as
it allows me to get more spin, and therefore more variation, when I defend,
and the thin sponge means that I keep the control.”

This explains what rubbers she uses and why. Joanna is also a "Butterfly Player".

Watched her at World Champs in Rotterdam and it went to Expedite. Playing another defender. She just would not attack tho was dogged to the end.

She's going to play Kristin Silbereisen in a few hours.

It seems she's the girlfriend of Paul Drinkhall. The Brits are dreaming of a double gold :o

I love Joanna's style. Good pouncing and killing, and clever variation in defence. I think perhaps she over-commits on some attacks, and leaves herself vulnerable to counter-attacking blocks, maybe, but I think she's great.
