Did you mean Suh HyoWon? That's what all German Open videos list her on YouTube...

I've seen it spelled both ways at different times. I think it's actually "Suh" and not Seo. That's only based on my phonetic observations... in interviews she is called "Suh" and not See-Oh

But I haven't a clue!

It was changed for some reason a couple of years ago. Just like Joo Se Hyuk. That's now Joo Sae Hyuk.
I hope she didn't get married... :u:

I think it's got to do with Revised Romanization of the Korean's Hangul.

F*&^%$## Romanization. It really sucks any way you do it. I was a box of rocks took me 2 weeks to learn Korean alphabet, average people can do it in a week.

Romanization leads to too many errors and mistakes.

SHW is not married, she posts almost every day on FB. There really isn't much hint of her having boyfriend, so you got about two years to learn Korean before it gets too late. Her sister is available too - Suh Hyo Yeong

Two weeks are great! I took one year of Chinese and still illiterate! Should've gone to Korea instead...

Der_Echte,

Great to hear from you. If I recall correctly, the last time I saw you we were playing doubles with Suh Hyo Yeong. I think that I played with Suh Hyo Yeong, but I don't remember who was your partner, and I don't remember who won.

My wife tells me that Suh is much better than Seo. I have pronounced Suh's last name as "Saw". That was understandable to Der_Echte and many Koreans, but my wife says that my pronunciation is still poor.

It sure was great to see Suh Hyowon play so well in Germany. It has been a long time since she was in the final of a major tournament.

What is her equipment currently? She just beat Hirano!

ridderz65,

In my OOAK Forum interview of Suh Hyowon (see viewtopic.php?p=253836), she said that she uses Tenergy 64 because "I like and use it because it is good on attack". Her answer suggests to me that she uses 2.1mm, since it is better for attaching than 1.9mm.

Here are the highlights of the final:

Based on her play in the German Open, I have the impression that there have been some exciting changes in her game. To me, it appears that she attacks pushes much more often than in the past. This attack includes both fast loops and slower spinny loops. I also have the impression that her counter loops are faster than they were in the past. Lastly, it seems that she is blocking more often on her backhand, with the long pips.

I assume that her reduced success during the past 2-3 years is due to the change to plastic balls, and the resulting reduced spin variation in her chops. Assuming that is the case, based on her success in the German Open, it seems that these changes in her game are very effective for dealing with the plastic ball.

It would be interesting to find out from Suh Hyowon if my impression is correct.

Steven

So should we change the topic title from Seo to Suh?

Looks to me that someone has a bad case of romanticisation.
