Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!

SHW is the real deal. I just saw the tail end of the East Asian Games semi final with her losing to Wu Yang and I thought she could not take her game to a higher level...still too many holes for the chinese attackers to take advantage of but after THIS match, especially with merciless Chen Meng who basically is her cute yet deadly counter part on the chinese team, she can finish her own attacks and doesnt need the charity of other opponent's errors...BRAVO!

That certainly was a great match between Seo Hyowon and Cheng Meng. It was nerve wracking to watch, and so disappointing to see her lose after having three match points in the 7th game. Since I assume that Liu Shiwen wasn't feeling well (Liu struggled in a few matches), it is quite likely that Seo could have made it to the final. In the East Asian Games Seo beat Zhu Yuling, so winning the Kuwait Open would have been a possibility for Seo. Early in the match it seemed that Seo's spin variation was too much for Cheng, but eventually Cheng caught on. Since Cheng's loops do not appear to be as fast and nor with as much spin as say Liu Shiwen or Ding Ning, I would have thought that Seo would have attacked much more often. It was also interesting to see Seo successfully counter attack with her backhand. I have only seen this once before on youtube in a match in the Korean Open about 3 years ago.

Der Echte,

I have already sent congratulations to Seo Hyowon from the OOAK Forum on winning the Polish Open. I'll be back at the SJK TT club this summer. Of course I'll say hi to SJK, Seo's sister, and others that know you at the SJK TT club. Hopefully we can get together again this summer and play table tennis at the SJK club.

Steven

Yes, but she's playing really well. Real modern defense. Watching the match against Ding Ning I conclude she's closing the gap with the Chinese. Like Joo did.

I don't feel confident making comments on such a great match (for Shan that is)... but I feel that they should be made...What would you guys do if you were Seo in this situation facing such a worthy SP Penholder...

I'm reminded of a match from years ago that had a similar match up:

Yes, but that one was with a happy ending. :) I think I would do the same as Jang Song Man. SPs are more immune to spin, but not totally immune. What can you otherwise do? Playing near the table and attack... Good luck with that.
