haha, this one is funny but a very good short video for any pingpong newbies to master the basic forehand smash!!! A very clear cut technique

You know, it just occurred to me that while penhold's regular backhand is harder to attack with than shakehand's, penhold has a much stronger backhand smash. I always just kinda took having that stroke for granted. :)

On this topic, I noticed in the video that the guy was always smashing with a very light upward movement with the angle of his paddle somewhat closed. While that is "proper" technique, I've always found it much more effective to smash lower balls with an almost completely neutral angle, and hitting with a very sharp forward movement with just the slightest bit of downward movement, contacting the ball on the very center of the back rather than a little above the center like they showed in the video. This gives the ball a teensy bit of backspin, which causes it to skid off the table, rather than bounce off. The result is a far flatter shot that's somewhat unpredictable and is harder to return since it won't bounce upward as much.
