According to the engineer, when I visited the Friendship factory, the top sheet is different. Surely someone has an old sheet and a new one to compare and see if there really is a difference.

One key thing on her shots is the depth. Very good.

I also think she gets deception just by using LP. lots of good change of spin (she pushes deep with her FH underspin then blocks the underspin return thus switching to topspin).

My conclusion-she was just a master of her equipment and a master of play.

Of course I don't see Deng chop block.....

I received my first 755 1.0 today. The sponge is 729 orange, "medium", so it isn't as soft as I thought.

You can see this going frame-by-frame. The paddle is typically stopped behind where the ball is coming to bounce, and the brush begins just before the ball arrives; you can see that the paddle is not moving very fast yet, and then the follow-through continues after the ball is gone. It might be partly for deception. I don't mind if an expert here tells me I'm wrong about this.

This is the first time I've touched long pips. Yes, they bend over easily! For as long as unbent pips can be swept under the spinning ball, the resistance to the spin will be very low.

Actually, once the pips are bent over it grips really surprisingly well. I have no idea yet how much it will spin, but probably better than I had thought. My 802 is shinier than my 802-40. This 755 is as dull as the 802-40 or close to it. It looks the same to me.

I'll watch for how long it lasts at my level, thank you.
I will focus on this rubber's offensive properties, and if I can get it to flat hit like her I'll let you know! :-)

The difference in resistance to incoming spin between a brushed hit and a solid punch should be large, and if the difference between those two is contained within a movement only a few inches across, it could be very difficult for the opponent to read.

Then, starting with a paddle that is stopped in front of the ball,
1. the ball can be punched straight forward with some medium resistance to the incoming spin
2. if the paddle begins to move just before the ball arrives the ball can be brushed while punching, with very low resistance to incoming spin
3. the follow-through can be exaggerated if you think that's useful

That's my analysis after stepping through the video and feeling the rubber with my fingers. I hope to try it tonight.

I tried it.
This is the first time I've played with long pips.
I was not good enough yet to verify what I said above. What I noticed today was "reversal". It was drastic.

I had H2 1.5 on my forehand (this was as close to a Deng Yaping wannabe setup that I could assemble last night). It seemed to me that I was hurting him with this H2, but he definitely preferred to avoid my backhand.

I really do want to focus on hitting hard with it though. As I said, if I can do that I'll post again, but this is not my main setup.

Edit: The original poster asked "Her LP does not look that "deceptive". Did she give up "deception" for speed and power?" Equipment-wise, the answer is definitely no, in my opinion. But she HITS in a straightforward way that doesn't look like she's focusing on finesse. The full magic is hidden, though, as otherwise anyone could hit like this.

Interestingly, my new team mate, Tim, plays a variation on this style, and is currently using 755 Mystery III 0.9mm on his FH. He hits hard and loops with his LP on his FH and combines it with a H3 RPB. Very difficult to play against, and fun to watch.

Note: this is now with 40+ ball, so it's still a viable style. I suspect there are better rubbers for this, but he needed a new rubber, and I had 755 in stock...
