The title for this could also have been;

"Why the top players get more spin on a loop than you do".

Although the strokes look very similar, it has to do with blade angle and blade direction at contact. The difference is small enough that a new player thinks he is doing it correctly and wonders why he can't make the same spin as the others. That is where a coach is needed.

I find that no-spin loops are often a low-percentage stroke... I'd prefer to do a side-spin loop, and vary the amount of sidespin. If a loop has mostly sidespin, it's just as likely to be blocked into the net as a no-spin loop, as you get the additional advantage of the kick off the table...

Yes, a slow loop with heavy side-spin tends to be difficult for your opponent to handle, especially if you don't use it much as they have very little idea of how much it is going to kick sideways.

So, as per the video and of course with our playing experience, it is clear that "no spin loop" is a fake term. It is actually a loop with less topspin. At least as far as inverted rubbers are concern.

Well it's like the no-spin service, which really is just a low-spin service unless you don't care to disguise it.

I think the no-spin loop is actually a fairly high percentage play against backspin, which this video demonstrated. Then again, maybe it's just because before I had the timing down when looping backspins, all I did was lift it with a no-spin loop :D

Really!! You can lift a back spin !! without putting a fair amount of topspin ?? That too controlling it to that extent, so that it carries no or negligible top-spin ?? :rofl:

What he shows in the video is a very good way to be able to attack a heavy chop from a defender. You loop your normal way but change the bat angle. It is difficult though, you need to know how much mack spin you are dealing with and there is not much room for misstakes.

Indeed sir Def-Attack..
When my friend is training chopping and I got mispositioned, the easiest way to with moderately low amount of topspin while being able to lift the backspin is that way :) But misreading the amount of spin could happen.

I believe this is also used by pros to return a defender's ball without too much topspin so the next return will be easier to hit or loop kill.
