I've been in the pips game for years now... my coach (a high level chopper) used to make me do this multiball drill of hitting a side swipe vs short underspin he was feeding me. Any deviation from a horizontal swipe, i.e. if I go up a bit, he would make me go back and do it perfectly parallel, aka Chen Weixing. He wanted me to hit at the highest point, through the spin.

I was rewatching Ma Te's clip the other day... If it doesn't go to the timestamp automatically, go to 11:42 mark.
BOOM -- It's the same side swipe I used to train!

The ultimate question is WHAT IS THE SPIN MY OPPONENT WOULD GET when one side swipes a push ball like that? For the rubber, let's assume a textbook Curl P1R, not too slippery, not too soft.

Looks like a sidewise pushing. Nifty stroke, indeed.
We have a hopeful youngster 17 y.o. using this kind of stroke a lot to his best profit. He curently using Dragon Talon LP special edition on his backhand. U
It looks the ball has got travelling speed a lot, along with a very little amount of sideway rotation.

A little topspin + a little sidespin. Works best against a backspin ball because that's where at least some of the topspin is coming from. You need the topspin to make a fast ball hit the table after clearing the net.

Yes thank you. I actually came to the same conclusion after practicing with another coach. He confirmed that the ball was nasty, varying from nospin to topspin to topspin with some side.
