I received the Dan Seemiller/Mark Nordby "Complete Table Tennis" DVD set in the mail today.

This is a comprehensive 2-DVD package that is three hours and twenty minutes long. Seemiller says it covers the same information taught during his week long seminars.

Although not the slickest special effects, the two-camera production is more than adequate. There doesn't seem to be much editing. This is mostly raw footage that makes you feel like you're actually attending a seminar.

Slow motion would have been nice, but if you watch on your computer you can easily slow down and analyze anything you want. The big feature here is information and in that area there is more meat here by far than in any other DVD I have seen.

Unlike the Samsonov and Killerspin DVDs that give a short explanation and demonstration of various strokes, "Complete Table Tennis" offers a detailed lecture on each topic (the looping section alone is 40 minutes long) as well as an excellent demonstration of the strokes. The information supplied is very deep and advanced. I had many "a'ha" moments. There no way I could come close to absorbing everything this video covers in one sitting. Next time I watch it I'll take notes.

There are twelve chapters:

Introduction
Fundamental Strokes
Advanced Strokes
General Principles
Serve Return
Short Game
Serving
Footwork
Multiball
Style Strategies
Long Pips
What's in a Player's Bag

Notes: Yes Seemiller uses the Seemiller grip throughout and does discuss it briefly. He also mentioned his antispin side briefly, but no tips on how to use it.....The section on long pips was how to play against it. Nordby seemed very happy about the frictionless ban. They think LP players can't attack.....While a lot of videos cater to beginners, this one is advanced enough for players at high levels also.....Coverage of serving, serve return and short game was superb and you feel that Seemiller wasn't holding back on revealing his personal playing secrets.....Seemiller and Nordby are diehard loopers and they teach an attacking strategy, however Seemiller doesn't hit a lot of backhands so as a pip player, I still felt that most the information applied to my game -- especially since I have gone to an aggressive looping forehand with Tenergy.

Although pricey at $79.95, I would still highly recommend this video for players who are serious about taking their game to the highest level they can attain. This DVD now sets the gold standard in which to measure others against.

Great review of a DVD set there, mate!

If there's a lot more meat there than in the Killerspin video, that'll be really nice to have.

People who have attended seemiller and nordby's camps seem to snap up the dvd immediately, which makes sense given your description of the dvd as being similar to a seminar. Of course the camps are more personalized but also more expensive.

NotBob, a guy with all kind of information and tt DVDs and still have time to watch and analyzes them all.
Thanks for a great review, however, I doubt I will buy it for a while, I haven't finished the tt DVDs that BH gave me almost 7 months ago and I did bought some Chinese tt DVDs on my recent trips.

I noticed someone recently uploaded some Danny Seemiller action from the recent U.S. Open. Even in his fifties, Seemiller is still rated #17 overall in the United States. In these clips Seemiller beats Jeff Lin Huang (2584) in the quarterfinals of the under 2600 singles. Seemiller went on to win the division.

Just one other Seemiller note. During the U.S. Open, Seemiller had a match against Jayant Geete, whom if you read the anti section you might remember is the guy who plays Butterfly Super Anti on both wings. The result? Seemiller won 11-1, 11-2, 11-1.

Hi,

Thanks for the excellent review. I really appreciate it. Mark and I did alot of work and we really like to see people improve.

I would like to use your review in my advertising. If you could tell me your name, it would be helpful. Once again, thanks.

Hi Dan,

Welcome to the forum. Please feel free to use the review in any way you wish. Attribute it to: NB, Los Angeles, CA

By the way, I've watched the sections on serving, serve return, short game and advanced strokes over and over. They contain an unbelievable amount of great information and tips.

I'd like to get your opinion on something.

According to the Butterfly web site you had been using a Grubba Pro blade with speed glued Sriver and Super Anti. Since the glue ban, have you stuck with that setup or moved to a "speed glue effect" rubber? Also, what do you think of Tenergy?

Wow, our forum is getting more and more world class players to join and give advices. Credit to Haggisv for providing such a friendly place with friendly people (there are exceptions, of course) and to all our resourceful members to provide reviews of all sorts.

Such a good place to be at daily.

Hi Again,
I have been struggling with my equipment asare many otherplayers are dealing with the glue ban. I support the glue ban 100 percent. My1.9 Sriver which I have used for 20 some years is just too slow. For now I have moved to 2.1 Sriver and I like it.
After the Nationals in Las Vegas I am going to give Tenergy a good try. This is an amazing breakthrough rubber with incredible spin. I would switch now but I know psychologically in Vegas if a match doesn't go right I would feel lost at the table. In Baltimore last week it seemed every player I played against was using Tenergy. Also look at Timo Boll he made the switch and has been embarassing world class players ever since.

20 years!!!! must be super hard to change.

Quick question : 1.9 VS 2.1 sriver - does it make that much different?

Another one : I watch you played Cheng at Team in Balt. I noticed Cheng get to loop many 3rd ball. Could you explain how he serve? What make it so difficult to return?

Wow! My hero!
I played you many years ago, entered every event I could. Think it was an Eastern Open. I have played a form of Seemiller grip ever since.
I do hope you stick your head in here every now and then. :D :D :D

Thanks for the welcome. I do like this forum.
Yes as you can imagine it is extremely hard to change anything after 20 years of using the same rubber. The 2.1 helps when I am looping topspin.
I need this shot. But I worry my blocking will suffer. As you know there is no magic out there.
As far as Cheng's serve he has a dead ball and an extremely heavy underspin They look the same initially and that is the problem. I should flip more but the flick is not a strong play of mine. I push too much. Ugh!

And it's half-long, double bounce kind? What does "initially" mean? the way it bounces on his side?

Amazing to hear player at your caliber to say "the flick is not a strong play of mine".....We all have things to practice!!!!

FYI. You have many fans in this forum!!!!!!
