Thanks MNNB,

these guys look like they are slightly more, aggressive than the others, good to see them twiddling too.

Good observation MM. This kid Ruwen Filus plays at the top level, Gönnern in Bundesliga I, the same league as Timo Boll. In fact, he played Boll directly in league play this season.

Awhile back I remember something about him on the ITTF site, hang on, here it is.

hiho,

yes Ruwen is a fantastic defender and no 5 or 6 (?) in the National Team. He´s playing Feint Long II on his BH.

Nevertheless I like watching the matches of those guys at lower levels, too or even more. Here is a 2min clip of Marcel Kauz (Oberliga/ League 4) using Isider ox on his BH. Not a highlight of tt, but interesting for a pips/anti-fan like me. Awesome reversal..

http://www.tt-total.tv/video-seiten/obe ... vid-2.html

and "real" defence by Andre Scholz in Regionalliga/ League 3 normally playing for the reserve team in league 6

Thanks nbob. I've been watching a lot of these lately and there seems to be a lot more lobbing than any other vids I've seen outside of exhibitions.

I wonder if the coaching in germany has a different emphasis. Like when in doubt bloop it high and run back. In u.s it's more like when in doubt swing harder and hope it goes in.

That does seem to be the trend. Perhaps they're finding that tactic more effective than trying to chop with a fast offensive rubber on their forehand.

Might as well be the case -- might be easier to catch the ball using a complete impact ('hitting') motion rather than try to brush it with a chop when tense.

I meant even the attackers in these leagues seem to use the lob relatively a lot.

One of the guys playing against Gester in particular.

That's true also. They seem to play more mid-distance than I see here for sure.
