Post subject:  Video editing software for Windows

I have used Mac machines for the last 10 or more years, but funds don't permit replacing my wife's macbook, so I'm giving her mine, and I'm now using a Windows 10 desktop.

I want to edit matches / exercises that I record. I used to just use iMovie. Is there a Microsoft equivalent? Preferably not one that I need to spend a lot of money on?

Windows Movie Maker. Seems to be built-in (unless I just still have an old version). Personally, I use VideoReDo for TV recordings, and Adobe Premiere for home video.

Checked to see if it was installed on my PC, it's not. But I did find it here:

Doesn't look like a Microsoft product, but it is free.

I had the same situation and use Lightworks. It's free and does everything I used iMovie for. Off-topic, I hate Win10 so much i now regret not spending the extra $800 to get a MacBook with similar specs. At the time it seemed like (and was) a total ripoff, but Win 10 is a dog.

You could also take a look at OpenShot.

I go back and forth a lot between Windows, Linux and OS-X computers, and find it really useful if an application exists for all platforms (and looks more or less the same, too). That is one reason why I prefer OpenOffice/LibreOffice over Microsoft Office. OpenShot fits in this category. Haven't used it a lot so I can't say much about stability, but in my experience it is easy to use and has sufficient power for my needs.

Lightworks is also good, but I ditched it for some reason. I think it had to do with a mandatory registration/cloud storage or something. When I tested both, Lightworks had better functionality and was more intuitive than OpenShot, but also needed more power from the hardware. Both apps are a little picky on graphics hardware if you use it in Linux. No worries with OpenShot in Win10.

My laptop PC is so old now (maybe 6 or 7 years?) and it has its problems, but at least it still has lovable old Windows 7...and it has Windows Movie Maker in it. Simple to use...I wonder if it was carried into Win 10 even. I bought my Mum a laptop with Win 8 on it, whcih was so bad I upgraded it to Win 10...I think Win 10 is just slightly better than Win 8...its a close call on which is worse :P  I'm gonna keep my machine going til its terminal failure 8)

For basic editing go for RecoveryTool Video Editor software
And for more advanced editing try after effects

For a number of years I've used Windows Live Movie maker.

Now it's no longer available on Windows 10 but if you dig around, you can find a download for it and instructions on how to get it on your Windows 10 machine. It's not that hard.

Everything I've ever shot on my personal youtube channel has been edited with Windows Live Movie Maker.

That being said, I think Movie Maker is pretty dated and there are probably better options.

I'm currently checking out VSDC which is free or the pro paid version is only $20 so that's manageable.

I'm still faster at editing with movie maker but that's probably only because I have more time with it.

This thread seems a magnet for those selling video editing software...who probably found us through Google, and don't even know this is a Table Tennis forum, and won't be seen again :(

Please see https://www.xp-pen.com/forum-1595.html for some suggestions.
I've used VSDC software for video editing. I need it for basics, trimming, combining etc and it's more than capable at those. Free to use, no watermark on the video afterwards.

For years I used Adobe premiere Pro. However, when they went to to a subscription model I stopped upgrading. Now I'm back video editing I've tried out DaVinci Resolve which is a fully featured editing program amongst other things. The free version should meet most people's needs who don't shoot in 4k. You will need a powerful PC, especially graphics card but that's the one to go for in my experience if you are after a fully featured free program. I've now upgraded to to studio version that is paid for. There's a steep learning curve but also plenty of tutorials out there on how to use it. I used it in my last video and found the colour grading features especially useful for correcting colour on footage I shot late into the night under normal room lighting.
