Here's a sequence by Miao Miao:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ka5j9Qlk9NE

At about 35 seconds Miao is hitting backhands flat and hard, then watch as she brilliantly cuts a counter drive/jab block! That's a whole "lesson" by itself in using medium pips!

Does she still use regular 563? I like it but the pips break too easily... A brand-new sheet only lasted me less than a week, before the pips in the sweet spot start to break partially at the base...

Last thing I saw, she was using regular 563, but one of the Aussie's on the board could certainly tell us better.

I am a big fan of 563-I have it one 2 blades: one an old Austrian made Alfa pro (with inverted on the forehand), and a Yasaka Couger (with Stiga Radical on the forehand). I do not have the pip breaking problem. It would be great if Miao Miao would come on the board and talk about medium pips backhands sometime...I wonder if she has the same problem with the breakage...

For attacking and imparting spin on the ball, dig the ball into the pips so more area is in contact. The ball will play like a hybrid between a short pips with a low-med throw inverted.
For continuing the spin a.k.a reversal, brush as much as possible so less surface area get contact with the ball. Thats the basic strategy for med pips. I think.. ;)

Sorry for asking this, but what rubber did Jian Fang Lay use on black side? I see that sometimes she used black side when receiving serve.

Best guess is RITC 755 in OX from what I can gather from the rest of the board-one of the Aussie probably knows better.
