Hi friends,

As we know, with inverted rubbers, black often has a bit more tack or spin than red.

I'm playing with Pluto red, but I need black!

Can I expect the black to be a bit more grippy? I hope not.

Your experiences are appreciated.

I have no experience with this particular rubber, but I would expect black to have just a little more grip.

Hi Everyone,

I have given up my Anti experiment with Timeless for the moment as I found the rubber ineffective when forced any distance at all away from the table. My continuing battle with tennis elbow did not help.

I am starting close season training shortly with a new setup. I have long been tempted to try Pluto on my backhand to block and counterhit at the table.I now have it in 1.5mm in red on a Joola Wing Medium blade with Tibhar Grip S Europe in black on the forehand max.

I decided to opt for red as I feel it will have less grip than black and I prefer less friction for service return on that wing. I am hoping for a bit of reversal with chopblocks and a decent amount of control for blocking together with the possibility of initiating attack of backspin and pushed balls.

I cannot wait to start and will post in due course.I would like to hear from anybody using the rubber in black or with more sponge as to how those factors affect the performance of the rubber.

Bulldog.

I appreciate the details on your pending experiment. Pluto is a really cool rubber....it takes patience to learn it, it does play different than a SP (Short Pip) It really is a Medium Pip, When blocking or even flat counter hitting it will produce some funky knuckleballs, and SP rubbers don't do it like that! Pluto is excellent for serve return, and good for hitting and good for chopping!

Good Luck and we look forward to your feedback!

It is doubtful you will be able to mount any consistent chop block with a medium pip with 1.5 sponge no matter what the color. This is not a forte of medium pips. You might be able to get some dead ball chop away from the table-but that's about it.

p.s. you also do not want to use the short pips topspin drive strokes either, as they just sit there to be eaten by better offensive players. Punch blocks and flat hitting through spin-flat hitting through push-awesome! The blocks will be very dead. Your choice of blade will also effect how the medium pips act as well.

Take a look at Miao Miao's medium pips game on her backhand-it is super!

Thanks Ian, that is well said. I'm still relatively new at "alternative rubbers" like SP, and your input will be noted by me and I will experiment with this!

Hi Guys

Ian was right about the Pluto. It was not good for driving off backspin for me.

Had problems from the start and moved to an inverted rubber on the backhand.

I have now stuck the Pluto to a much faster blade and intend to have another go. Looking to flat hit and punch-block aggressively rather than initiate spinny attacks. Spinny rubber on the forehand for looping.

My backhand has improved greatly over the Summer and I think I am now better placed to exploit the strengths of the Pluto.

Bulldog.

One slight modification-you can get some fairly good underspin with 563 and 35 degree sponge from Zeropong-you just cant get Feint Long 3 caliber backspin.
