I'm really quite excited about giving this rubber a go. You're infectious, foam!

Ah man, they've sent me the 1.8mm sponge (which is actually 2mm measured) :( I guess I'll give it a go anyway.

Well its very slow in 1.0, if it still chops controlled in 1.8 then it might be interesting on the attack.

A year or so ago I saw a women's match between an Asian and east European team, I think something like Japan against Hungary. I think it was Christina toth playing. It was clear her opponent was using short pips. The thing that surprised me was that the pips serves had an amazing amount of spin and many direct serve points were scored. Luckily there was a closeup of the pips and the pips were... Nittaku pimple mini.

Never got around to buying a sheet of pimplemini but that was the first time I saw truly Spinny pips serves.

Elvis was she a hitter or defender?. It seems to me depending on sponge and blade you could successfully do either with it at an elite level.

My best guess would be hitter but I do remember clearly there were hardly any rallies as toth (quite sure it was her) was hardly able to return a serve.

Well... I think I've just found the rubber for me!

It's a perfect balance between a long pimple and a short pimple - the control and spin insensitivity is fantastic yet the rubber is more than capable of generating its own spin.

The problem I have with LPs is twofold - varying the spin is tricky and playing against flat-hitters is tricky. That simply isn't the case with this rubber, you decide how much spin you put on the ball and even against light "out of the hand" loops my coach found himself facing fairly reasonable backspin.

The problem I have with SPs is that the spin insensitive ones I've tried tend to be a) not that insensitive anyway and b) difficult to get much spin with. The spin-sensitive spinny SPs on the other hand are just like bad inverted rubbers for me (SSPCS2 springs straight to mind). Somehow this rubber provides almost LP-like control (and that's with 1.8mm sponge!) but also generates a good amount of spin on dead balls.

Its ability to topspin is actually pretty impressive too, even against fairly heavy backspin. If I continue playing with this rubber I think I'll learn to master that shot to stop players from looping then pushing into my backhand.

I've got some footage from my coach but FRUSTRATINGLY the first 20 minutes which we did on chopping with the Pimplemini (and I mixed in some topspins too) didn't record!! I'd love to blame the camera but apparently it isn't psychic and doesn't know when to record unless you actually press the record button  Will upload the video overnight tonight and post here tomorrow.

I knew I didn't imagine how good it is :). Will you stick with the 1.8mm or go thinner?. I might go thicker myself if becomes a little faster in potential but stays controlled enough to hit slower when you want slow. Agree on the spin pips, that rubber was terrible even compared to 802 and pimple mini is so much easier to use than 802. I'd argue 802 probably has more potential for a professional chopper, but we aren't professional choppers.

I played with 802 for some time and although I agree, I didn't actually enjoy the feel of it for some reason.

I think I'm gonna stick with the 1.8mm foam. I'd like to see the difference between that and say the 1.0mm sponge but the 1.8mm has tons of control and seems really versatile.

In a 20 minute segment of "me chopping; coach pushing; me looping" I missed only 4 chops. He likes to mix the spin up on the loop (out of his hand) especially to include the occasional flat-hit rocket (because historically I've been awful at those) and I was playing so consistently.

Hopefully you'll be able to see its effectiveness in my video - my coach, who has a phenomenal touch, netting chops from fairly low-spin loops.

I seen you miss lots with lp so I'm thinking hardly missing any is a big gainer. I'm really bad with lp but even I can get nearly every chop on with pimplemini.

Yer, absolutely. Low-spin shots in particular I always netted with my LPs, especially in a match environment.

How did you find the variation between topspins and a flatter hit?. I'm finding that very effective in drawing a net with the pimple mini, also twiddling to inverted during the topspin rally usually ends with a long ball or miss hit due to the extra speed. Although because of the longer throw Im best doing the twiddle only from mid distance or I trick myself.

I said to my coach that having a rubber I can topspin with on my backhand would be a real benefit to me (as opposed to twiddling to my forehand rubber to play an offensive stroke) - partially because I'm still not confident twiddling in a tense match environment (even though I do fairly relentlessly in practice if I'm using LPs on my backhand) and partially for that exact scenario you've just described.

I didn't get a chance to really work on my backhand topspin this week, and I'm fairly poor at it (as you'll see) but I accidentally managed to kill the spin on a few backhand drives. Coach struggled with most of the topspin attacks that I made - one or two went off the end and he netted the shots that I flat hit.

I don't really want to play topspin strokes on my backhand but especially at the level I'm playing at at the moment, it could prove incredibly useful vs. the flat-hitting types and pushers.
