Anybody knowledgable could help with choosing please?
I need it to be quite spinny (less than slick sp but more than spinny lp like p1r) of defensive priority but also ability to aggressive block/hit vs topspin and underspin attack.

Is it grippy enough though? The reviews differ quite a bit on that rubber. Also what thickness?

TSP Millitall II is a rather grippy but very safe pip, with small skinny but not very tall pips. Like a shrunken lp .

Medium pips can be a bit fast for defense but a couple of options that may work for you are Spinlord Orkan 1.5mm or Sauer & Troga Hipster. Orkan has less spin than Hipster but is more disruptive when blocking and counter hitting top spin.

I suppose you could compensate by using a suitably slow blade (Toxic 3? Hock 3 ply?) or an absorbing sponge (who was it who made that sponge that was more like foam?), but you'd have to ask yourself - what would be the point of choosing medium over long pips? You'd have a little more of an attack, I suppose...

Yes medium pips are still fundamentally attack orientated rubbers, just with more disruption effect than SP

Wanting to also be able to fall back and Chop as well as attack I am going to experiment with some of the grippier sponge long pips like AP2 and Schmerz. Have played a bit with Dtecs 1.2mm but it needs quite a bit of skill and practice to master.

I mainly wanted to become more aggressive after my serve is returned too cautiously to my backhand which often happens and I can only slice those with p1r. Also when caught at the table a block is very unstable so I thought mp would be a solution. Anyway I've decided to order P2 1.5 mm and Millitall 1.5 mm.

Another option is Tibhar Extra Long. It's a rather slow MP compared to most. Good allround, somewhat similar to Millitall.

No problem, sounds like Millitall would probably suit you better anyway, it has a touch more speed and grip which makes it a bit better for attacking.

Similar to MilliTall would be Nittaku PimpleMini, same basic concept, maybe a little softer and slightly more grip than MilliTall. On a side note I have a friend who hits quite well with his P1r, the problem is it's a pretty normal ball, just something not expected from a Long Pip player.
