Which one is better for attack and block, Half Long 1.5mm or 2.0mm?

I want to attack and block at the same time. Which one to use? Am going to order half long next week.

Mod - could we move this to 'long pips' '(preferred) or else 'short pips' please?

I've never played it but I bought it, its a good rubber with a very good reputation.

People come to Half Long from two different camps: short pips perhaps looking for more effects and long pips perhaps looking for more attacking options.

Short pips -> med pips I dunno and by the sound of it thats where you've come from.

If you are long pips -> med. pips
I would go for 1.5mm max. to get sink into the punch block returns. You might even find 1mm sponge highly effective. Basically they topspin into you pips you 'hard block'/ attack back and the ball will now contain either no spin or some backspin (sink).

Hallmark always say 1.5 - 2mm for best attack and to be honest their rubbers do deliver alot of reverse spin for the amount of sponge (Hallmark Frustration certainly does), but I'd still err to 1.5mm.

The right blade for med. pips is an interesting question - do you go ultra carbon type hard as for short pips or something rigid and springy as for long pips?

hi Jmaster,

I have never tried half-long but have used 563 and C7, sponge thickness in 2mm feels like a short pip and you would lose alot of the effect. 1.5mm is probably the ideal thickness.

Alot of the med pips i've tried wor best within the range of 1.3-1.7 it gives just enough speed to give u a good hit'counterhit, but also gives enough touch to perform blocks with a small amount of deception.

Thinner sponge= better for blocking, more deception
Thicker sponge= better for hitting, less deception, more speed

good luck choosing :D

I agree, generally yuo'd use less than 2.0mm for any pip as you'd lose too much effect and control...

I used half long 1mm, gave good lp effect when blocking and was still fast for attacking. I gave it up because it played too much like an sp in its strokes and not enough like an LP
