I enjoyed reading your post, you certainly have been taking improvement seriously!

I'm from Winnipeg, but I will be in Cambridge for a month, probably in August. I checked the distance to Sarnia, it's only 2 hours. I hope to join you for an evening of TT!

BTW: if you are rated 421 in Canada, I probably would be around rated at 2421. So you will give me a learning opportunity!

I will contact you later this summer!

Glenn

I'd love to get together for a hit.
Let me know as you're getting ready to travel to Ontario.

To clarify, I'm rated 421, not ranked 421
My national ranking is 1467. So don't get too excited about learning from me, lol.

Hi, I'm musicfreak0. You can call me musicfreak or Joe, as it says in my signature! I'm 15 and from Tassie. I'm known for my fast (and typically inconsistent!) forehand drives/smashes. I play with an anti on my backhand; mainly for variety. I use it especially to give myself attacking opportunities against choppers and I use it against other anti/pimple players to get a smashable flat ball. I did a big science project not long ago on table tennis, looking at the effects of different substances on the spin and speed of a rubber. Check it out here: howspinworks.weebly.com.
As my username implies, I love music. I play guitar and sing mainly. I also write a lot of music and poetry, as well as playing keys and bass. I can (but don't really) play ukulele, cello and violin.
I hope I'm not too much of a nuisance on the forums.

Hey I'm Wasif. I've been playing table tennis for around 7-8 years but I have been learning from a coach for 2.5 years. I've been a two winged looper for 2.5 years but now playing modern defense for 2 months. Not sure about my USATT rating but I will definitely post a video of me playing in the near future as I want to know what's my level compared to other people of the world lol. Modern defense with ox pips are great :D

Welcome to the forum guys!

Musicfreak0: Love your Pink Floyd avatar... very clever.

infernowasif34: I think it will be much harder to judge your level as a modern defender with OX LPs, compared to a 2-winger looper.

Yeah I think so too. Sometimes I play great sometimes I don't even know what I'm doing lol. I do great in practice but games? Not so much. Need to improve my consistency :Chop:

Thanks Haggisv! It's the title for How Spin Works part 2! Should I make a thread for How Spin Works? I feel it could benefit those who are interested and/or don't really know the physics behind the game.

I think you should! As many people like me are not familiar with how short pimples or antispin rubbers work. It would be very convenient in my opinion.

I was hoping someone would say that! Thanks for the feedback, Infernowasif34. Part 2 (work in progress) is all about how much cleaning and keeping a cheap racket in a case preserve power and spin. I'll probably start the thread over the weekend.

Hello everyone, I'm Nick! (Hi Nick!)

I'm 26 years old and I've been playing TT for ~7-8 years. I've only used the stock TT paddles and recently just purchased a new paddle BEFORE stumbling on this forum. I hope I didn't get screwed though.

I'm a Satellite Technician and on my free time I preach about vaping advocacy (if anyone would like information, please let me know)! I also enjoy simulators (Flight Simulator, Project Cars, etc...) I used to be very passionate about flying and racing.

I'm starting to learn all this "lingo" for the first time in my life and I hope to continue my education of TT and the like!

Welcome Nick! I'm no OOAK veteran, but I'm sure you'll pick a lot of good tips up from the forum. What rubbers did you get on your new racket? Anyway, hope you enjoy the forum.

This is the exact paddle I bought: http://www.amazon.com/Killerspin-JET400-Table-Tennis-Paddle/dp/B002TX6S8O?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

I'm hoping it will be a decent paddle for myself.

Is there an advantage for a "new" player like myself to get specialized rubber and such before I'm able to really hone in my skill?

Probably not, but this can be a debated topic. The general consensus is "no": it is better to learn (I don't mean that in a condescending way), but it is better for your strokes to develop with slower equipment. Firstly, it is easier to return faster shots and spinnier serves with this sort of equipment. Secondly, your attacking strokes will be a lot faster when you get a faster racket if you're used to slower equipment. The alternative to this is getting a fast racket and learning the strokes with this racket, and relying on fast equipment; which makes it more difficult to transition to sower equipment if you feel like that's the direction you want to move in.
Bottom line is, control is probably the most important aspect for you at the moment, and the fact that the rubbers are ITTF registered means you can play competition without people pulling you up about your racket! That being said, I find Killerspin to be a bit pricey, but they have fairly good quality equipment, so you should be fine.
Good luck!
